Last week we celebrated Thanksgiving, and many spent time thinking and talking about those things we have to be thankful for at this time in our lives. May our attitude of thankfulness not stop with the holiday, but may we continue to be thankful, knowing the rich blessings the Lord has given. I have never been invited to any huge presidential inauguration event before (I will soonest💪🏽🤩). But I've followed quite a number. Many are held all over the continents of the world. The US, Europe, Africa, the UK, Asia, the Middle East, etc. There are usually different attractions to them. One is that guests are classified and issued invitations based on their perceived importance. Powerful individuals in politics, business, religion, wealth, and other top caders of life are usually invited including sitting and former Presidents from different nations, worldwide business moguls, and captains of industries to mention a few. Their invitation rating are usually identified on their issued invitation sent to them. It would determine how and where they would sit at the event. Usually, you look at such highly placed personalities differently. Truly, dints of hard work and/or favor could have placed them at such levels. But a wrong assumption usually made is that they do not need or lack anything because of their status, position, wielded power, level of riches, wealth, and the like. How wrong that assumption is. Several are lonely. Some are challenged in one area or the other. ————————————————— This brings up the fact that it is the same way unfortunately we see and treat God many times. God is God and rules over all. Yes! Yet He demands and truly deserves a couple of things from you, and indeed everyone! The one I will mention today is your "Thanksgiving". The love of God to you and every mankind is uncountable. It shows in many aspects. The least is to give Him thanks. And to remember to do so regularly. It was Thanksgiving Sunday in the church today (it is every 1st one in the month). I was glad to thank and appreciate Him. How often do you remember God to show appreciation? How lovely if you are doing so already. Create and devise more ways to do so. If you are not or is not enough? Now you have this reminder. Happy Sunday to you all. Jesus loves you! Best Wishes.

The Truth Behind Thanksgiving: A Reflection on Gratitude and Acknowledgment Thanksgiving often conjures images of unity, gratitude, and abundance—but the truth behind the "first Thanksgiving" in 1621 tells a much more complex and painful story. That harvest feast shared by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people is widely romanticized, yet it occurred under profoundly unequal circumstances. The Wampanoag, devastated by disease and displacement due to European contact, sought an alliance with the Pilgrims as a matter of survival. While they participated in the feast, it was against the backdrop of profound loss and change. The Pilgrims, on the other hand, celebrated their survival and their harvest, seated at the table of triumph. Meanwhile, the Wampanoag sat on the ground, grappling with the devastating impacts of colonization. This stark contrast serves as a reminder that gratitude must include an honest acknowledgment of history and the struggles of those who endured. The story doesn’t end there. This gathering marked the beginning of a fraught and often tragic relationship between settlers and Indigenous peoples. Within decades, the Wampanoag and other Native nations faced land dispossession, violent conflict, and systemic marginalization—realities that persist to this day. So, as you gather around your tables, enjoying the feast and the company of your loved ones, remember to give thanks for the ones who truly made this “holiday” happen. Honor the resilience of the Wampanoag and all Indigenous peoples, whose sacrifices and strength remain a profound part of this story. "To give thanks is to remember the past. Let us honor those who endured and strive for a future of truth, equity, and solidarity." Stacie Campanelli- The Queen Whisperer 11/28/24

Many of us will be gathering with friends and family today to eat traditional food and give thanks. While it is a good practice to reflect on the abundance in our lives and to express our gratitude, we should also realize that the original Thanksgiving celebration we observe has been mythologized and is historically inaccurate. Native people have little reason to be grateful for the coming of the Pilgrims and other European immigrants to North America. For Native people, the traditional Thanksgiving celebration is a reminder of genocide, stolen lands, unfair treaties, broken promises, and attempted erasure of their languages and cultures. For many Native people, today is a #NationalDayOfMourning. Others observe today as a day of #Truthsgiving or #UnThanksGiving. Take a few minutes from your festivities today to reflect on "The Invention of Thanksgiving" by watching this brief video from the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian: https://lnkd.in/ghQNcYMW. According to the perspective presented here, the myth of Thanksgiving represents our aspirations to be a friendly, peaceful, neighborly country. Unfortunately, we haven't lived up to our aspirations in the past. Can we do better now and in the future? #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth
