This reminds of last semester when we had a special lecture with Mr. Malik Afegbua, a renowned creative technologist, thanks to Funmi Akinsola Unuajefe. He delivered an inspiring talk on "intentional storytelling" as African communicators. This concept applies to everything we create, from written content and illustrations to films and videos. Every word in our writing, every stroke in our sketches, every clip and sequence in our films – all these elements should contribute to a larger and intentional narrative - Africans telling the African story the African way. Most of us are selfish public speakers. We prioritize our own comfort above our audience’s experience. Effective public speaking is uncomfortable. It invites you to do the unnatural: …Visually connect with and engage strangers, or people who intimidate you. …Pause deliberately throughout your speaking so your listeners can actually think about and connect with what you said. …Frame your information in a way that makes it important to your listeners, which may be different that what makes it important to you. …Manage your body movement so your listeners can easily focus on your words. Confidence is generally selected by most people as the main characteristic of a good public speaker – this at least for the past 12 years I have regularly taught it (here is an example from one session). And confidence is important, but it is not a main characteristic of a good public speaker. In fact, you can have: --a confident but bad public speaker; and   --a good public speaker who is not confident. But, as lack of confidence or #FearOfPublicSpeaking makes the delivery of public speaking much more difficult and unpleasant, ideally it should be dealt with. Luckily, with the right methods, #confidence in #PublicSpeaking, and #communication in general, can be built pretty quickly. Also #ConfidentPublicSpeaking is much more fun for the speaker
