For those who missed the news on Friday...this is huge for St Helens. It's a massive vote of confidence in the Borough's 5 year regeneration masterplan.
There's unsurprisingly plenty of local narrative around why the Borough doesn't need such a hotel.
That's cynicism for you but the town in particular, has suffered the kind of blight that can create that mentality.
The facts are that St Helens is a world leader across many assets. The major regeneration projects in the pipeline and business growth within for example, manufacturing will keep bringing more headlines in 2025.
Then there's the new 25,000 sq ft Market Hall as centrepiece of a transformational scheme that includes a 120-bedroom globally branded hotel, 75,000 sq ft of office space, 64 new homes and 11,000 sq ft of modern retail space in the initial phase.
It’s the biggest ever single investment in St Helens town centre and involves the Council itself committing a £69.2m package to Phase One. Backing is also being made available in the form of £21.49m in grants from the UK Government and equity investment by ECF.
Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has also provided financial support for a new St Helens bus station. Plus, there’s the Parkside development, Omega West and Glass Futures an innovative research and technology centre to help decarbonise the global glass industry, which officially opened last Summer.
That's why Hilton has the confidence.
St Helen's now ticks so many boxes for investors.
