ICAR-NIAP has published a policy paper on “A Spatial Assessment of Sustainability in Indian Agriculture”. In this paper, a Composite Index of Agricultural Sustainability (CIAS) has been constructed India using 51 indicators related to ecology, soil and water health, and socio-economic development. The agricultural sustainability has been assessed for major states of the country. The findings will aid policymakers to identify weak linkages in agricultural development at a spatial scale, and accordingly take corrective actions.
