Generative AI (like ChatGPT) can retain a near-limitless corpus of knowledge, translate text into multiple languages and convert highly complex ideas into simple terms. These qualities might one-day make chatbots ideal for diagnosing diseases, offering 24/7 medical advice and improving communications with patients. Still up for debate is whether these qualities should be viewed as great news for the healthcare industry or as a threat to doctors. I offer my thoughts in The Fulcrum.US. #healthcare #generativeai #healthcareonlinkedin #oped

Very insightful in addressing the fact that AI can not magically create time. If a primary doctor has only 15 minutes to spend on a patient, AI can at best help optimize that time. It doesn't solve the problem of primary care physician to patient ratio. I think the point about trained human experts providing personal connection and mutual trust is debatable. Depending on their disease, many patients today are simply looking for fast and effective treatment. Regardless of personal connection and mutual trust provided by the doctor. Any technology that exist when a person is born will be considered the normal for that person. Perhaps patients of the future are simply content with a very fast, effective and accessible solution to their illness from an AI. An often overlooked ability of human experts that is irreplaceable is the ability to research and find new solutions. Something often overlooked due to the workload of current day physicians.

AI, I fear, is about to put masses of people out of work. How will society handle that? Not well, most likely.

I consider it as a great news for the healthcare industry as it will boost efficiency in patient outcomes rather than a threat.

Great article Robert Pearl, M.D. curious your thoughts on revenue models like direct primary care and others that are emerging? Do you think these models offer more time with patients and are the next wave of the future of primary care?

Great insights! Generative AI definitely has the potential to transform healthcare by enhancing accessibility and communication. #AIinHealthcare

It would be good news if it were to enhance the physician-patient relationship and cut down on the frequency information technology burnout that’s occurring at the moment.
