"Raise your hand if you think someone should do something" I participated in the DREAM Lahti #startup pitching event by StartHub Lahti and Finnish Business Angels Network (FiBAN) last Friday. My pitch started like this: "According to the Stockholm Resilience Center, 6 out of 9 planetary boundaries for human existence have already been crossed. Raise your hand if you think Someone should do something?" I'm pretty sure all the 150+ people in the audience raised their hand My follow-up was "Raise your hand again if you think businesses are in the driver's seat" ...and after a split second of hesitation, 90% of people raised their hand again. After that I went on to explaining how #LCA helps businesses get the needed know-how to design environmentally sustainable product and business models, get some of the data they need to be compliant, and back up their Green Claims, plus a lot of other stuff that one needs to cover in a pitch. 🎤 Humbled and grateful to have been part of the DGIx Digital & Green Innovation Accelerator pitch event as an inspirational speaker. 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to the World Food Programme Innovation Accelerator and Smart Development Fund (#SDF) for orchestrating this incredible event that brought together visionaries, change-makers, and environmental enthusiasts. 💥The DGIx Digital & Green Innovation Accelerator, a program initiated by the WFP Innovation Accelerator and the Smart Development Fund (#SDF), is powered by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and the European Union (EU) 📌This program is a beacon of hope, seeking high-impact digital ventures and projects aimed at tackling some of the most pressing environmental challenges in selected countries. 🎉 Participating in this event allowed me to witness the outstanding contributions of pan-African innovators who are addressing environmental challenges. It was a platform to share my story, and I am deeply inspired by the daring spirit of these innovators. 📝The journey of The Green Protector started with the audacious belief that environmental sustainability is not just a dream but a tangible reality. Our team of young Rwandans committed themselves to making a difference daily through climate education, climate action, and active engagement in climate politics. 🌍✨ Intellectual Property (IP): A Strategic Driver for Shared Global Growth and Resilience ✨🌱 The powerful message in the song Súplica Cearense calls attention to the struggles of communities facing environmental hardships, seeking support in times of crisis. 🎶🌾 This deep emotional plea for help resonates with the need for global solutions, especially as we confront challenges like climate change, food security, and economic inequality. But how does this relate to the Intellectual Property (IP) world? 🔑 Here’s the connection: Just as communities look for solutions to survive and thrive, IP can drive sustainable, shared global growth. By strategically managing and leveraging IP, we can enable innovation that benefits businesses and addresses global crises. Here’s how: 🛠️ Empowering Vulnerable Regions: IP can protect innovations aimed at climate adaptation and environmental sustainability. For example, agricultural patents that help create drought-resistant crops can significantly impact regions suffering from water scarcity, like parts of Brazil or Africa. 🤝 Fostering Global Collaboration: IP strategies can foster cross-border partnerships, ensuring that technological advancements are shared for the greater good. The COVID-19 vaccine patents, for instance, saw collaborative efforts to ensure global distribution, highlighting the importance of equitable access to innovations in times of global crises. 💡 Boosting Local Economies: Protecting local innovations helps entrepreneurs and small businesses thrive. Take the example of biotech innovations in emerging markets, where IP protection allows local startups to develop new solutions while securing funding and international partnerships. This boosts local economies and creates sustainable job opportunities. 📚 Educating and Inspiring: IP education plays a crucial role in empowering communities to innovate. By equipping local innovators with knowledge about IP protection, they can safeguard their creations and bring their solutions to market. For example, IP training in rural areas can help local farmers patent their innovative farming techniques and expand their reach globally. Months and months of hard work are now paying off: the 9 EU Innovation Fund projects that we have been privileged to support and that have been selected for Grant Agreement Preparation add up to more than €685 million in funding. These projects are expected to lead to over 58M tCO2e GHG emissions reductions in the first 10 years of their operation! 🌍 A huge congratulations to our clients, who have shown the courage and vision to invest in clean technologies. A big complement to our experts from CiaoTech - Gruppo PNO, ARTTIC France, EGEN, PNO Chemistry and PNO Consultants Greece, PNO Consultants GmbH, PNO Innovation Belgium, PNO Consultants France and PNO Innovation (Portugal), who have latched onto these projects like no other with one goal: to accelerate their development and ensure they get funded through Innovation Fund. The SEE BRIDGE consortium is pleased to share the success of its recent Peer Learning Workshop titled "Creating a Sustainable Future: Exploring Best Practices and Funding Opportunities”. This workshop was specially designed to: ▪️ Provide valuable information about the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) to intermediaries supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in intensive energy sectors.  ▪️ Share successful best practices that have been adopted by organisations across partner countries and that can be transferred and used to inspire innovation and transformation among intermediaries. The Peer Learning Workshops serve as essential instruments in fulfilling the SEE BRIDGE consortium's commitment to facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences. They create a transnational collaborative environment where intermediaries can draw inspiration from one another, sparking innovation and driving positive change.
