Measure 117 would enact ranked choice voting for statewide and federal races, giving voters the option to rank candidates in order of preference: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. It’s a simple but effective improvement that gives you more choice and power on your ballot. Our Ballot Measure Study Committee spent over six months reviewing national and international case studies of ranked choice voting, interviewing both proponents and opponents, and analyzing whether the outcomes of RCV elections tend to favor one party over another. We concluded that RCV under Oregon Measure 117 provides significant improvements over Oregon’s current plurality system. While recognizing that all voting systems have flaws, the committee found that RCV enhances voter representation by allowing a more complete expression of preferences, making it a beneficial reform that more accurately reflects the majority’s sentiments. Despite concerns about RCV potentially favoring certain political parties, the committee found no evidence that it inherently benefits any particular party. I voted. Hey y'all, the early voting polls were busy so I can only imagine what November 5th is going to look like. You might want to consider voting early to avoid standing in long lines, especially if you have a physical or medical challenge. EARLY VOTING ENDS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND. {Time varies by location} As a former Officer of Election here are a few things to note: ●If you have a disability and are unable to walk into the building, an election official is required to bring a ballot to your car for you to complete. It's called "curbside voting." ●If you have difficulty reading or completing a form you can ask an election official to provide assistance. They are required to help you. You can also bring an assistant with you. ●It's unlawful for any person to loiter or congregate within 40 feet of the poll entrance. Officers of Elections will be stationed outside and inside of the building to assist you and answer any questions you may have regarding ballot content and the voting process. ●If you're in line and the polls close while you're waiting to cast your ballot you have the right to remain in the line until you vote. Monitoring the Incoming results: 2020 to 2024 Pennsylvania and Michigan Early Voting Numbers In 2020, early voting surged across the country driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and a hotly contested Presidential race. As early voting counts come in, it is reasonable to expect less early voting than pandemic times, but the question is: how much less? In 2020, 886,745 Pennsylvania voters had already cast their ballots by October 20th, with another 1,237,243 casting their vote in the two weeks before the election. So far, 220,356 Pennsylvania voters have cast their ballots in this year's election, and, while this number is lower than it was at the same point in 2020, it's still substantially higher than in previous elections, showing larger participation in early and absentee voting. Voting is a fundamental democratic process that allows citizens to choose their representatives and express their preferences on various issues. It is a way for people to have a say in the governance of their country, state, or local community. In most democracies, eligible citizens can vote in elections, which can be for positions such as the president, members of parliament, governors, and local officials, as well as on specific referendums or policy issues. Voting typically involves the following steps: 1. **Registration:** Eligible citizens must register to vote, providing necessary identification and information. 2. **Campaigns:** Candidates and parties campaign to present their platforms and policies to the electorate. 3. **Election Day:** On the designated day(s), voters go to polling stations to cast their votes using ballots or electronic voting machines. 4. **Counting:** Votes are counted, and results are tabulated. 5. **Results:** The results are announced, determining the winners based on the voting system in place (e.g., first-past-the-post, proportional representation). Voting is a civic duty and a right that empowers citizens to influence the direction of their government and society.

It is unfortunate that sensible election reforms had nearly zero traction in 2024. Ranked-choice voting (also known as preferential voting) has been known as tool for ensuring elected leaders have the support of a majority of voters since the nineteenth century. It's even been the norm in Denmark for about one hundred years. Yet voters in the United States consistently pan the adoption of ranked-choice voting in favor of the polarizing status quo. This is evidence that more effort is needed to educate citizens on not just the general goals of democracy, but in the mechanics, both at the micro level (i.e., making decisions in deliberative settings) and and at the macro level (i.e., electing representatives and other political leaders). A critical mass of citizens interested in improving our representative democracy and familiar with proven tools of democracy would be much more likely to succeed in securing much-needed reforms.

Election rigging is a serious issue that affects the integrity of the democratic process. It involves manipulating election outcomes to favor a particular candidate or party. This manipulation can take many forms, including vote buying, ballot stuffing, and tampering with electronic voting systems. Individuals and groups who engage in election rigging undermine public trust in the electoral system. This can lead to political instability and weaken the foundations of democracy. Florida Fridays - Early Voting, Sunshine State Making It Safe and Secure. With general elections 11 days away, early voting is well under way in Miami-Dade and Florida. Keep in mind that: “Early voting for the General Election will be held from October 21st through November 3rd from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. “ Furthermore per TD: “Early voting has started and Floridians are lining up to cast their votes. More than 377,000 people voted on the first day of early voting, according to early numbers from the state Division of Elections.” Security first: “Who can enter polling places in Florida?
