I’ve recently surpassed 4000 followers, so perhaps it’s time for a brief re-introduction. Hello 👋 I’m Robin. And this isn’t like other LinkedIn pages. I’ve been an OG in AI since the 80s, before AI even existed, and it still fascinates me to this day. As the technology explodes in both progress and popularity, so have the conversations around it – which happen to be maybe one of my favourite things in the world. So I want you to follow me not just because I have something to talk about, but also because I love talking WITH people. If you’ve got opinions, insight, or even just a passing interest in AI, the philosophy behind it, or the technical applications of it, give me a follow. You don’t have to agree with my points of view. In fact, I’d prefer if you didn’t – debate is where we find the way forward on: 🤖 What intelligence, consciousness and sentience actually are 🤖 Where these things overlap and where they differ 🤖 How we test for these things (and whether we can trust the tests!) 🤖 Where we go next Lovely to meet you, I look forward to our future discussions!

Your comments are so valuable and precious that not everybody should get them. Only those high quality posts that resonate with you If for some reason... 🔹 You need to think too much how to respond to someone else's post 🔹 You need AI to articulate what to say Then move on, it's not for you Follow your instict The right people are coming to you The most fulfilling thing you can find in this platform is to find what is meant to be for you

AI written works stinks- not in the sense that it’s bad, but in the sense that it smells ‘off’. I think this is true for LinkedIn posts, job applications and even news. The other problem is that it has an impact on words written by people - a sort second guessing on behalf of the reader. That means we may not engage as deeply in what our fellow humans have to say, because we are left wonder ‘did an ai write this?’. I would also say that the environmental impact of AI is the crisis on the horizon, if we aren’t careful LLMs will become like the internal combustion engine, disastrously ubiquitous. We have a choice, right now, ai has its uses- but use it sparingly, deliberately, and with care.

Have a little gripe to share, something which has slightly bothered me over time but the more I see it the more it's started to bother me. People posting very obviously written by AI LinkedIn posts. Most often from a 3rd person point of view. Why? Is it quicker. Is it easier? Do you still get people interacting on those posts?? Do you realize we can tell they are ai generated? Do you care? It's giving me the ick! Ok, I realise that's not business speak, in other words, as soon as I see these posts, it turns me right off. Are we so busy we can't use our own words to post on LinkedIn or even wider social media? I mention busyness because most of the time the people posting these are people who previously had good things to say. If you're going to let AI generate your posts, I no longer want to listen. Surely if you're too busy for a quick type up of whatever event you've been to or opinion of the day you might want to share, then, you're probably simply too busy. I'm not against AI, it absolutely has its uses, but I'm hoping for society's sake human can still interact with humans. Otherwise, what is the point! ... signed off as T, a human being who'd like to interact with other human beings! Have a fabulous Friday everyone!

The hard truth! We can’t really fix the Bias in GenAI. You know, fixing bias in GenAI is a tough nut to crack. I mean, think about it, we've got nearly 8 billion people on this planet. And around 80% of them can read and write in some language—that's a whopping 6.4 billion folks! And hey, guess what? About 60% of these people are hooked up to the internet. That’s roughly 3.9 billion of us But get this, only a tiny fraction—less than 10%—actually create content. The rest of us? We're just soaking up all that information and at times scrolling through cat videos and whatnot. So, you do the math, that's about 384 million content creators out there, among 8 billion of us! And if we really dig deep into the rabbit hole, we can see which languages have the most contributors. Now, imagine this— our Large Language Models are built on this foundation!!! It's like building a house on shaky ground, right? Me thinks no legal framework can fix that massive bias we're dealing with! 😲 #GenAI #Bias #DiversityandInclusion

In a world where algorithms dictate much of what we see, hear, and think online, How Algorithms Flattened Culture by @kylechayka, pulls back the curtain on their profound impact on our cultural landscape. 📱💻 The book brilliantly explores how platforms like #YouTube, #Facebook, and #Instagram etc..powered by algorithms, are not just shaping conten; they’re shaping culture itself. As algorithms prioritize what they know we want to see, they create echo chambers, narrowing our exposure to diverse ideas and perspectives. What we end up with is a homogenized digital experience that risks stifling the richness of cultural variety. Is this the price we pay for convenience? Or is it time to rethink the way these platforms shape our cultural narratives? This book isn’t just a critique; it’s a wake-up call for anyone who cares about the future of culture in the age of AI. A must-read for digital natives, cultural enthusiasts, and anyone questioning how technology is shaping our collective identity. #BookReview #CulturalImpact #Algorithms #DigitalCulture #EchoChambers #TechEthics #FutureOfCulture #AI

I've been getting a lot of questions about a recent Tweet I posted on X, where I shared my interest in AI. I created a quick example with a short clip that only took me about 3 minutes to make. The response has been amazing—so many of you have been asking how I came up with the prompt, how I got the image to talk, and even lip-sync so perfectly, as well as which platform I used. I know the curiosity, and I get it—this tech is exciting! If you're interested in learning how to do this yourself, I'd love to help. Let's connect, and you can join my group where I'll be sharing more insights, tips, and tricks. Just send me a message.

Talked to a number of execs at the intersection of AI and the media over the last week. One repeated theme: there’s a core tension between getting exactly the thing I think I want (hyperpersonalization) and knowing about the thing that everyone else knows about (what social scientists would call common knowledge). I’m not sure how to square that circle but if you have ideas, please send them my way!
