AFAC24 powered by INTERSCHUTZ - importance of accurately identifying unseen hazards is paramount for first responders. David Bryne EPE Trusted to Protect Identification & Quantification of TICs and VOCs - A look at the 908 Devices XplorIR Handheld FTIR Identifying materials quickly is crucial during Hazmat incidents. While FTIR and Raman instruments have improved the identification of solids and liquids, unknown gases remain challenging due to their low concentrations and high toxicity. Portable infrared spectroscopy, such as the 908 Devices XplorIR, now accurately identifies gases at low concentrations. This handheld spectrometer enhances response capabilities and improves community safety, offering a faster, more reliable alternative to traditional field detection and identification methods. Ecosystem restoration, natural resource management, environmental remediation, and permitting are just some the Corps missions that protect and enhance our environment everyday!
Happy 🌍 Day! The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers provides solutions that support our diverse mission areas, protect our environment, and secure a sustainable future. Here at the New England District, we are providing ecological benefits through our protection of ecosystems. Check out our ecosystem restoration project on the Royal River that we are studying to develop a plan of restoring access to an estimated 71 miles of river habitat for federally listed fish species with the goal of providing fish with upstream access to historic reproductive habitat for adults. #EarthDay #NAEEarthDay2024 #USACE

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (#EOD) of 5No. 2” mortars and 1No. Anti-Tank projectile at a nature reserve in East Anglia. The work was required to support a #habitatrestoration scheme. The works were carried out with minimal fuss and no disturbance to wildlife or the public, allowing the habitat restoration to proceed safely. As responders continue to help North Carolina communities devastated by Hurricane Helene, a team from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center is providing high-quality aerial imagery to guide recovery efforts. The ERDC Uncrewed Aircraft Systems team has been deployed to three mountainous counties in northwest North Carolina, where the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is helping clear roadways that have been obstructed by floodwaters and mudslides. These aerial images are providing responders with a clearer and more complete bird’s-eye view of the damage. While the US Navy has initiated another review of its 30-year shipbuilding plan in the face of widespread dissatisfaction, one element within that plan has been praised: the decision to provide funding for continued construction of amphibious warfare ships. #navy #shipbuilding #maritime #shipsandshipping

Hurricane Helene hit on Thursday September 26th and I have not seen one news report about the deployment of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). In the past, I have personally met USACE, they would do anything to help. What is going on? We should have had the full military might engaged a week ago. 1. Marines would be happy to carry supplies to survivors. 2. The Army would be happy to clear roads and provide logistic support. 3. The Air Force would be happy to provide aerial command, control, and communications with helicopters, AWACS, and aircraft. 4. The Navy and Coast Guard are experts in support for search and rescue as well as treacherous water navigation. 5. Space Force can help with satellite images and coordinate with Elon Musk and Star Link. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) provides a wealth of geospatial data through its interactive maps, which are essential for understanding various civil works projects across the nation. Users can access detailed maps that showcase the locations of USACE divisions and districts, including the Little Rock and Mobile Districts, which focus on navigation-related features of waterway systems. Additionally, the USACE Digital Library offers a collection of historical maps, architectural drawings, and surveys, allowing users to explore the rich history of engineering projects. The Civil Works Wall Map is particularly useful, as it lists all USACE Civil Works Projects in a downloadable format for offline use.For those interested in specific regions, the USACE provides district maps that highlight key areas such as Beaver Lake and Bull Shoals Lake. These resources are invaluable for researchers, historians, and the general public seeking to understand the impact of the Corps' work on the nation's infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/e-Xvp8qi

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced they will begin water releases from Lake Okeechobee into the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee estuaries and Lake Worth Lagoon due to high lake levels. With more than 4 billion gallons of polluted freshwater being dumped to the east and west coasts daily, drastic changes to the color and health of Florida's waterways will soon become noticeable, impacting the salinity balance, seagrass beds, and oyster habitats. This is why we need the EAA Reservoir and its Stormwater Treatment Area to store, clean, and send Lake Okeechobee's water south. We will continue to monitor the situation in the upcoming weeks and the impacts on our coastal estuaries. https://lnkd.in/eVGJrmj4
