Reading the book ‘The Chimp Paradox’ by psychologist Steve Peters…gives an insight into why Trump behaves the way he does. Basically, our ‘chimp’ is a metaphor for how our ‘base ego compulsions’ override/overpower our ‘logic’ and even ‘common sense’ when we feel under stress. Our reaction to a threat today is still to default to our primitive survival state of ‘fight, flight and freeze’ response in order to survive. As we evolved as humans, our ‘logical brain’ developed and we became increasingly adept at ‘putting our ego in harness’ (like taming a wild horse) in order to fit into society’s expectations. Also, as we get older, we typically get more ‘practiced’ and refined at dealing with the challenges that we face…essentially becoming better at managing our ‘chimp’ compulsions. We know that in any endeavour such as sports, a profession (doctor, accountant, scientist, carer, builder, teacher, etc.), or in social interactions - the more ‘disciplined, experienced and practiced’ we become at managing our ‘chimp’, the better we become at managing our emotions and thoughts…especially when under stress. Unfortunately, Trump grew up in a privileged materialistic ecosystem where he hasn’t needed to adapt, manage or discipline his compulsions. It’s obvious that he aspires to continue to be king of his castle in the political arena (like his hero Putin), and he’s behaving like a wannabe dictator because that’s his default state (from his private/business life). Therefore, it’s fairly easy to see that Trump is constantly in ‘chimp mode’ and is immune to any argument where he’s not the centre of attention and authority.

One of the chief problems we have in American politics (and is a significant reason why the Democrats lost this election) is the same type of problem I write about in my children's books, where I use chess as a means for teaching kids about cognitive flexibility. It is impossible to become a good chess player without learning how to see the board from your opponent's point of view. When your opponent makes a given move, he has a plan. He sees (or thinks he sees) something, and if you move without trying to understand that perspective, you may fall into a trap. You need to adapt your own plan around what you learn from examining the board from your opponent's point of view. Unfortunately, there are many power structures in place that do not want their followers to do this. Doing so strips the powers that be of their ability to manipulate them using fear and anger against an "other" than is bad, foolish, uneducated, fill-in-the-blank. Both political parties are guilty of this. But in this particular election, the Democrats unwillingness to understand and adapt to the reasons for why people might choose Trump despite him being a convicted felon cost them the election. Potentially the next President of the United States. Yay for us. ===== Sure, she hasn't been recorded saying things as offensive as some. But people who choose gross incompetence and inexperience over offensive competence, well, they deserve what's coming to them. They will get an Administration that enables and tolerates genocidal anti-Semitism like the current one. Just look in the streets of any Democrat led city. Or in any Progressive dominated institution. The horrors we witness today in terms of rampant crime, broken cities, homelessness/drug addiction cycles, illegal immigration and anti-Semitic mobs tolerated and even encouraged were created and enabled by foolish, virtue-seeking and -signalling donors and voters, who listened to sweet lies about tolerance, social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion. It's simply a fact that some states and cities are in good places and directions on all these issues, and others are not. The rest of us can only pray that the fooled and foolish wake up while there is still time.

What is needed from Joe Biden, at a minimum, is the articulation of a transition plan and a contingency plan. Based on Joe’s age alone, such a step is appropriate—as is the case for any executive officer. Such an articulation should include triggering events and specification of the next two leaders in line, at least. Donald Trump should also provide such clarification. #Elections

Signs Someone Is In A Cult Identifying whether a friend or loved one is involved in a cult can be challenging, especially if the changes in their behavior are gradual. They may become secretive about their activities and hesitant to share details about the group or its leader.
