#AI has been used in biology before, but the recent breakthrough by DeepMind's AlphaFold is something different. It predicts the structures of almost all proteins in the human body, allowing scientists to see the inner workings of life with unprecedented clarity. #AlphaFold began this journey in 2018, but it was AlphaFold 2 in 2020 that truly amazed the world by winning the CASP14 competition. Fast forward to May 2024, and we have AlphaFold 3. This tool is 50% more accurate and can now predict structures for proteins and DNA, RNA, and even complex ligands. As a #Healthcare enthusiast, the rapidity of AlphaFold 3's predictions is truly remarkable, transforming what used to be years of work into mere seconds. This is a huge achievement, considering that in the early days, biologists spent months determining the structure of a single protein. Sure, AlphaFold 3 still has areas to improve, like its chirality error rate, but its impact on bioinformatics and drug discovery is undeniable. Dr. Demis Hassabis said, "This is the most significant contribution AI has made to advancing scientific knowledge." And I couldn't agree more.
