Excited to announce the publication of our latest research paper in @ieee TCST! 📊🤖 Title: "Mixed Reality Environment and High-Dimensional Continuification Control for Swarm Robotics" In this work, we tackle one of the key challenges in swarm robotics: bridging the gap between theoretical control algorithms and real-world implementation. Our contributions include: 🔹 A novel mixed reality experimental platform that combines physical differential drive robots with virtual agents, enabling scalable swarm robotics research 🔹 Extension of continuification-based control methods to higher dimensions, advancing the theoretical framework for swarm control 🔹 Experimental validation of continuous-limit control approaches, demonstrating their effectiveness in real-world scenarios This research opens new possibilities for testing and implementing swarm control algorithms, particularly those based on continuum approximations of large ensembles. Trading off between model complexity and horizon length is tricky in any computation-limited control setting. 🤖 Robotic Leg Powered by Artificial Muscles from Max Planck and ETH! Scientists have developed a robotic leg powered by creature-inspired electro-hydraulic artificial muscles (HASELS). This leg exhibits energy-efficient and agile movement by jumping on different surfaces such as grass, pebbles and rocks. A novel control algorithm that can reason about model complexity while ensuring feasibility and stability.

This morning we had the kick-off of the KIEM project "MagSLAM" at Saxion, with Sybren Kappert Henk Kortier Mohammad ALDIBAJA Mihnea Bastea Henri Huisman and also Abeje Y. Mersha joined us for a bit. It's an exploratory project where we'll work on the full pipeline for enabling robot localisation (and mapping) using magnetometers: by turning distortions in the magnetic field due to big metal objects 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻! Academically very interesting, even if the direct aplication on outdoors unmanned vehicles—my current main concern—is not really possible. However, I expect a lot of relevant knowledge to come from this: - Magnetometer calibration - Modular deployment with hardware-accelerated containers (ROS 2 on Docker?) - Frameworks for sped-up numerical computation (JAX?) - And, in general, how to integrate "exotic" sensors in a SLAM solution I'm looking forward to another deep robotics collaboration with Saxion University of Applied Sciences Smart Mechatronics And RoboTics (SMART) Research Group, Demcon and RIWO!
