Last night Steven Bartlett said something which was pure nectar to hear... "Every company is a recruitment company, as the definition of a company is a group of people". Did you know, he spends 3️⃣0️⃣ hours per week looking through CVs, dedicating his time to finding A players in the market. He said in the last 1️⃣2️⃣ months in particular, he realised the fundamental importance of recruitment and the key to success is not just a good product or working 6️⃣0️⃣ hour weeks; the key is thinking "who"?! Not how, but who. The key is to invest your time into securing the right people to create a group of people, who, when mixed with company values and culture, successfully drive forward together laying each metaphorical brick perfectly, until, before they know it, they have built a wall. As a recruitment business, we are noticing how timescales are extending with a delay on CV feedback, or one to two weeks between interviews, and guess what, the A Players are being snapped up by those companies who are prioritising recruitment and emphasising the importance of WHO. As a side note and personal share point from me, as to who I am... ✔ Yes, I'm a recruiter ✔ Yes I've been within the industry for 20 years ✔ Yes, I'm a qualified Fellow for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation However, I'm also: 🟢 A Psychology graduate 🟢 Someone with diploma's in Neuroscience and Emotional Intelligence 🟢 Passionate about people and business and the importance of dovetailing the two 🟢 A loyal ambassador for my clients and candidates - it's personal to me as we're dealing with people's lives and livelihoods. How amazing is that?! All businesses are recruitment companies, but not all companies are recruiters. I know what I bring to the table in my job, and that's not just a CV in an inbox, it's so much more than that. It's the interest, understanding, exploration of people and businesses at a granular level, commercial thinking, future proofing, expectation managing, safe guarding, communications focused, knowledge developing, person centric work which means that a CV is qualified - thoroughly. However, on the occasion when a unicorn CV is sitting in an inbox, going cold, it's simply a travesty. So, next time a CV arrives in your inbox, act. Can you afford to lose an amazing candidate because recruitment isn't your priority in amongst the pile of to-do's on your desk? Remember, when you delay, your competitor's will be adding to their group of people and gaining the ultimate win. And one more thing, "the definition of a company is a group of people". For the longest time, whenever I faced an unexpected challenge, my immediate reaction was to reach for external sources of knowledge to get "in the know" about what to do. This led to an extensive library of books and references on best practices. Can you relate? This was the world that I entered this morning when I stepped outside to check on the animals. A world of life and of webs that had previously been hidden. Yesterday, in the same place, they hadn't entered my consciousness, but they were there - unseen by me, but part of the web of life that is unveiled only when we choose to look for it, or in moments of awe.
