When I began my journey in teaching, I had countless questions about classroom management, lesson planning, and navigating the world of PGCE placements. I often found myself wishing I had a guide to help me through the uncertainties of being a new teacher. Today, I’m proud to say that I can be that support for others. Teaching is a rewarding career, but let’s face it—starting out can feel overwhelming. There’s so much to learn, so many questions to ask, and a constant balancing act between being prepared and finding your own unique style. That’s where I come in. Through my experiences as both a PE teacher and now a senior lecturer, I’ve learned that asking for guidance and support is key to success. I’m committed to being that guide for beginning and trainee teachers—sharing tips, answering questions, and offering insights from my own journey. That’s why I’ve created a new YouTube video specifically for aspiring teachers, where I answer the most common questions I’ve received about PGCE placements and teacher training from my trainee teachers. If you're preparing for your PGCE placement or are just starting out as a teacher, I invite you to check out my latest video and get some practical advice in a non-judgemental casual setting. What's the biggest question you have about starting your teaching career? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll do my best to answer it in the next video! https://lnkd.in/eW4KMn7c

From dependent to independent. Just finished another Trinity CertTESOL course with a group of trainee teachers. They all passed 🍾 and can now look for teaching jobs in the UK and elsewhere. When reflecting on the 5-week course, what seemed to work particularly well was how we scaffolded the lesson planning process. ✔ At the beginning, they needed to be taken through their lesson plans step-by-step. ✔ As the course progressed, they all become more independent planners, although some required more assistance and validation of their plans and activities than others. ✔ By the end of the course, most of them just needed me to have a quick look at their plans. All I had to do was make a few minor suggestions. Working on an intensive training course with adults always reminds me of one of Malcolm Knowles's principles of adult learning: 'An essential aspect of maturing is developing the ability to take increasing responsibility for our own lives – to become increasingly self-directed' (Knowles 1975: 15). Or, to put it another way, the whole point of scaffolding is that you remove it at some point. #tefl #teachenglish #training

Teaching can be both a job and a duty. Job: As a job, teaching means you get paid, follow certain rules, and work in a school or other place of learning. Responsibility: Teaching also means you have the duty to help young people learn, grow, and become better people. You guide their future and help build a better society. Often, teaching is a mix of both—a paid job and a duty to help students learn and succeed.

Classes in our Pre-Employment programme are small. But what does that mean for our learners? 👍 More personal time with your tutor - we get to know you better, and so are in a position to support you, identify and address difficulties and offer advice as you learn with us. 👍 Stronger relationships with your classmates and tutors, which creates a supportive and encouraging learning environment. 👍 More chances to get involved in the class, collaborate, share your opinions, ask questions and be heard. 👍 A calmer, more spacious environment - meaning less of the stress and anxiety associated with larger class sizes.
