Wouldn't it be amazing if there were a tool that could save serious costs for the Kubernetes worker nodes, has other superpowers, is free, and is a CNCF project? Turns out, there is ONE... Karpenter, an efficient cluster autoscaler created at AWS with love and donated to CNCF, does the below: - Scales up (and down to zero) fast because it interacts directly with VM APIs, and not via Auto Scaling Groups - Binpacks your pods (shown in the diagram), and rightsizes compute automatically. You do NOT need to tinker with descheduler and custom scheduler (yes I have been there) - Automatically upgrade worker nodes with the latest and secure AMIs if you want it to be - And more...
