🚨 Caribbean education is facing a significant crisis, no more evident than in the disappointing results in the 2024 CXC examinations. 😔 During his keynote address Reimagining the Future (Again): Radical Shifts Needed for Caribbean Education Transformation, on the final day of the recent Regional Symposium and Policy Dialogue on Transforming Education in the Cayman Islands, Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Dr Didacus Jules, noted that education transformation must be approached as a connected, system-wide priority. Dr Jules outlined 8 key failures that have contributed to the slow progress of change in the regional education system: 🔑 Colonial legacies 👩🏫 Lack of technology integration 🚀 Poor policy development 📚 Outdated curricula 📊 Resources constraints 🌱 Persistent inequality 🧠 Social challenges 📈 Limited access to higher education ✨ “Driving it all must be a compelling vision and purpose... the why of education,” said Dr Jules. Keeping digging into education sphere I’ve started the academic year at the Janusz Korczak Institute of Alternative Education on the program "Horizons of Alternative Education" leading by Mikhail Epshtein. In the first seminar we tried to define what we are talking about when we talk about alternative education? The words "out of traditional Soviet education system" were heard and very little was said about other countries edu-systems. And I wonder if the concept of alternative education exists only in post-soviet countries as opposite to government's system? Or this concept is familiar to people from another countries as well? Have you ever heard about alternative education in your home country? If yes, what do you mean by this concept?

Higher education institutions are commonly in the limelight with events related to the current political and economic climate. So much so that free speech has been an increasing concern among institutional leadership. According to Inside Higher Ed’s Leadership Survey, 40% of Provosts said that world events have stressed their institution’s speech policies to the point of needing to be revised. Additionally, when asked, only 36% of institutions said they have had a clear policy to respond to student complaints about extramural speech and only 31% said they have a policy to handle online trolling or other outside attacks on faculty—an issue that is becoming more common. Read the full survey and findings to learn more. https://lnkd.in/gVBRk4Kq #higheredleadership #highereducation #campusdialogue #highereducationissues #campusdebate #educationalpolicy #campusculture #executivesearchfirm #recruiting
