What would you do if you got a black eye at an event you attended? I’ve been reading blogs and posts about the Readers Take Denver event from last month. Probably because someone called it the Fyre Festival of books. The list of issues was as long as a CVS receipt: Food ran out Hour-long lines Lack of security Missing pre-ordered books And yes an attendee stated she got a black eye All of this got me to thinking about when I starting my role as an Event Planner. It was complete and total chaos. I was the Fyre Festival. I can’t believe people paid me for what I was doing and didn’t ask for their money back. But here is the big difference between then and now. I have 19 years of failing and learning from those failures. Can anyone plan an event on their own without an Event Planner or #eventprofs? Of course they can. However, you have to ask yourself are you willing to bypass years of experience just so you can save some money or because you did a smaller event and now you think you know everything?
