Please do not introduce a new variety to the farmers without ensuring the buyers first! This is #marketsystemsdevelopment 101. We first do an end market analysis to define the market, we get the buyers and we introduce the variety together with the buyers. A lot of #agricultural #valuechain and #climateresilient value chain development programmes in #Bangladesh are now promoting capsicum and dragon fruit as high value crops. It is working in areas where there is local demand from super markets and institutional buyers. It is failing elsewhere. born in a farmer family, always felt the financial struggle of farmer. sowing to harvesting, farmer is dependent upon soil condition, seed quality, weather, market fluctuations, availability of fertilizer, pests, wild animals, fire, transportation etc. being a short harvesting duration for each crop, leading to temporary oversupply, layers of middleman squeeze farmer and pay pittance for the harvest. Middleman stocks and markets the produce to pocket 100% ~ 500% profit. To rescue farmers and food security of the nation, government spends approx. 3.5 lakh crore (approx. $40 billion) annually on food and agriculture-related subsidies like free ration for BPL families, MSP payment, subsidizing fertilizers/ irrigation/ electricity/ crop insurance etc. Out of college, I decided to break this nexus of middleman and increase farmer income, dhampurgreen was born and undertook following path to success; 🌾 🌿 Farm-to-Table operations; integrated supply chain by developing expertise and investing in direct procurement from farmer, processing and packaging infrastructure at field to prevent spoilage. 👨🌾 👩🌾 Farmer-Owned Cooperatives; Organised farmers into self help groups, this motivated farmer by sharing success stories and training for organic practices and use scientific knowledge to grow crops suitable for soil and weather conditions. 🎁 🏨 Direct Institutional Sales; Build a sales team to approach HORECA consumers and convinced them to buy directly instead of dealers and distributors. This created a feedback loop of market knowledge to grow value added agri ingredients for hotels and restaurants. 🔉 🎬 Collaborative Branding and Marketing; Social media and awareness building made sure customer differentiates products based on correct quality parameters and prefer to buy product directly from farm. 📲 📱 Digital Platforms and Apps; Once product, packaging, brand got established, various ecommerce and quick commerce platforms helped in reaching directly to consumers.
