We're excited to share our newest research article, which highlights the perioperative outcomes of left atrial appendage (LAA) amputation performed concurrently with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). ✅ LAA amputation does not lead to worse perioperative outcomes reinforcing its safety and efficacy in cardiac surgery. With recent advancements, LAA amputation is now a Class I recommendation, reflecting its critical role in reducing stroke risk for patients with atrial fibrillation. https://lnkd.in/eU5UAmbZ

On #WorldKidneyDay, we raise awareness for cardiac surgery-associated renal damage (CSA-RD), the long-term loss of renal function in patients undergoing open-heart surgery. CSA-RD is a life-threatening condition for which there is no preventative or curative pharmacological treatment. At AM-Pharma, we are dedicated to advancing a therapeutic approach to prevent CSA-RD, and we are currently conducting a Phase 2 study of ilofotase alfa in at-risk cardiac surgery patients.   #kidneydisease #renaldamage

Class 1A recommendation in the 2024 EACTS/EACTAIC Guidelines on patient blood management on Perioperative treatment algorithms for the bleeding patient based on viscoelastic POC testing to reduce the number of transfusions in cardiac surgery (Table 11. Recommendations for transfusion strategies).

"The many ways in which ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels can be exploited for human benefit have expanded over recent decades. Especially since the early 2000s, research has improved our understanding of the components and mechanisms of KATP channels. They have the potential to have a prominent role in cardiac surgery. Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic activation of KATP channels has been shown to be both cardioprotective and neuroprotective in early basic science and clinical studies. However, many questions remain unanswered and require further study, necessitating further basic science work and large human clinical trials. This review discusses the history and recent progress in the research relating to the use of KATP channels for cardiac surgery." Corresponding Author:  Jennifer S. 5 different applications of spinal endoscopy (UBE) in one day at our outpatient surgery center: far lateral hnp, facet cyst excision with bilateral partial facetecotmy, interlaminar L5-S1 mcd, adjacent level to a prior fusion with a massive L2-3 HNP, and a revision laminectomy with neurolysis.
