"What built the government we have today is… In the 1930s: Roosevelt dramatically transformed the government. [In the 1920s, the government] was a fraction of what it became. That was the discontinuous step function. And if you recall what Roosevelt did, which was widely lauded at the time (and since), is he put out the call for basically all of the smart young people in the country to put their hands up & volunteer… The Federal Government was the Y Combinator of 1933, [as a result of] The New Deal… You put out the call, and the call is: every smart 25 to 30 year old who's good at anything — you bring him to Washington… These were all people who would be the exact same kinds of people that we have who come into Y Combinator, and come into our firm and pitch and start companies… One of the reasons why FDR is such a legend is because the FDR era of Federal Government was actually high performance. It actually worked. It *did* electrify the Tennessee Valley. Well, let's just take that one as an example: FDR *did* electrify the Tennessee Valley; the Biden Administration *did not* build electric charging stations." What about creating a tangible, incentive structure in the civil service. This is not a grantee and its fouses towards all grades. If you submit proposals, that make a tangible difference, with qualitative savings and efficiencies. Reviewed in public testimony, then you can apply for an incentive payment. This can also extend to whistle blower legislation. We're corruption and waste are exposed.
"The last serious look at government was the Grace Commission established by Reagan in the 1980s. The commission, led by J. Peter Grace of W.R. Grace & Co., made 2,478 recommendations to save $424 billion over three year in 1984 dollars and $115 billion immediately by the Administration without Congress.... A federal Leviathan that now commands nearly 25% of the U.S. economy and extends its reach into every corner of American life is in desperate need of reform... Even trying could help increase public trust in government, which is reaching historic lows—22% this year in the Pew Research Center’s moving average."

Trying to make the government more efficient is great. But this is the wrong way to do it. Let's talk math for a second. To cut $2 trillion from the federal budget, you would need to: 💰Eliminate the entire Defense Department 💵 Shut down the Department of Energy 🪙 Close the Department of Education 💳 Still find $300 billion more from Medicare and Social Security Let’s face it: The U.S. government is primarily a check-writing operation that happens to own a military. You can't "optimize" your way to trillion-dollar savings.

Under Trump’s leadership, U.S. government and policy are undergoing transformative changes. By sidelining traditional neo-conservatives and prioritizing loyalty and disruption, the administration, with allies like RFK Jr. and Musk, aims to cut costs, overhaul defense strategies, and reset trade and FEMA policies. Investors should watch for opportunities and risks, as this shift could echo the Reagan-era transformation while carrying potential trade policy disruptions.
