Exploring the Virtual Frontier: The Rise of STEAM Online Events In the digital age, the convergence of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) has spurred a dynamic shift in how knowledge is shared and communities are formed. Virtual online events have emerged as a powerful platform, fostering engagement, collaboration, and innovation within the STEAM field. From virtual science fairs to coding competitions, online STEAM events offer a myriad of opportunities for enthusiasts of all ages to connect, learn, and create. These events transcend geographical boundaries, welcoming participants from diverse backgrounds and cultures, thereby enriching the exchange of ideas and perspectives. One of the key advantages of virtual STEAM events lies in their accessibility. Participants can join from the comfort of their homes, eliminating barriers such as travel costs and logistical constraints. This inclusivity promotes greater diversity and representation within the STEAM community, ensuring that talent and ingenuity are not limited by location or circumstance. Moreover, virtual platforms enable organizers to incorporate interactive elements that enhance the learning experience. From live demonstrations and workshops to virtual reality simulations, attendees can immerse themselves in hands-on activities that bring STEAM concepts to life. This experiential learning fosters curiosity and creativity, inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. As the world continues to embrace digital connectivity, the prevalence of virtual STEAM events is poised to grow. These gatherings not only provide a platform for education and networking but also serve as catalysts for meaningful collaborations and breakthrough discoveries. By harnessing the power of technology, we can unlock new frontiers of knowledge and empower individuals to shape a brighter future for generations to come.

📢 << Calling all Centennial College students, join us for our upcoming #hackathon in partnership with the City of Toronto and the #TorontoEmergencyManagement! In September 2024, the City of #Toronto identified a significant need to develop culturally appropriate and accessible educational materials to support communities responding to disruptions to their daily lives and emergencies, such as heat waves, prolonged power outages, or extreme weather. In addition to this, Toronto Emergency Management learned that communication is critical for engaging communities and gaining public support. In collaboration with the #SocialInnovation Research Centre at Centennial College, we are working together to create public education materials designed for diverse cultural and linguistic groups in online text-based format, audio, and video. The materials will answer simple questions, such as “what should I do if my apartment is too hot to stay in?” or “where can I go if the power goes out in the cold and I don’t have heat in my apartment?” In this hackathon, we are aiming to develop effective and creative communication tools to educate the public about what to do and how to respond in emergency situations, while focusing on the information presented in the City of Toronto’s “Get Emergency Ready” brochure. Our goal is to use the information in the brochure to create new resources that have improved design and accessibility, are more user-friendly, and communicate the information effectively to the culturally diverse residents of Toronto. Thus, we are inviting Centennial College Students to participate in this upcoming Hackathon event. 👉 Learn more about how to participate in the hackathon: https://lnkd.in/gGVigSx8

CASE STUDY: University Of Kent - Virtual Open Day 🌟 In today’s digital landscape, virtual open days are essential for universities to reach both domestic and international students who may not have the opportunity to visit in person. We’re excited to share a case study on how we enhanced the virtual open day experience for the University of Kent. What We Did ➡️ We worked closely with the university’s marketing team to create a highly personalised virtual open day. Drawing inspiration from social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, and e-commerce filters, we developed a custom microsite that curates content based on user preferences. This project not only enhanced local student experiences but is also "essential" the university’s international student recruitment efforts. 🎥 Watch and read the full video case study here: https://lnkd.in/eWmS3eBv #VirtualOpenDay #HigherEducation #DigitalInnovation #UniversityOfKent #EdTech #PersonalisedExperience #StudentRecruitment

✨ Throwback to 2021! ✨ Remember rocking school uniforms? #blesseddresscode 😅 Here's me at my FIRST EVER gig as Director of Registration and VP of Pantomath Trials for CSSF '21. (Yep, online! Thanks, COVID 😷) 💻 Virtual Science Fiesta = 🔥 💻 Who knew a global pandemic would turn us into online event ninjas? 🥷 We pulled off a virtual science extravaganza that was absolute FIRE. I got to flex my leadership skills and run the Pantomath Trials—basically, science court but way cooler (think science experiments meet Law & Order). ⚖ 🚀 Lessons Learned: Level Up! 🚀 From wrangling registrations to leading the charge as VP, I realized that epic events are about more than just planning. It's about rolling with the punches and making decisions faster than a meme goes viral. 🦸♂💥 🌱 Growth Mindset: Activated! 🌱 This event taught me more about life and leadership than any textbook ever could. 📚 It was all about creativity, adapting like a boss, and the pure joy of turning ideas into reality. ✨ 🌟 Beyond the Event Horizon 🌟 While I crushed the event management game, it's not my final form. This was a major glow-up moment, learning to handle things on the fly, but event planning isn't my forever plan. Just a stepping stone on my amazing journey! 🚀

To summarize, we are planning to streamline the CHI conference experience by having a program only during the weekdays, and simplifying the formats for presentation. Papers will be delivered in the mornings, and then the afternoons will consist of interactive content divided into five categories.
