Children who are bullied often face anxiety, depression, and even long-term mental health issues, including struggles with self-esteem and academic performance. They may disengage from school, fearing further targeting, which affects their future opportunities. But bullies are at risk too. Children who bully often have fewer social and emotional skills and struggle to form positive relationships. Left unchecked, these behaviors can lead to more serious issues later in life, including substance abuse, depression, and violent behavior. Creating emotionally safe environments and supporting the development of empathy helps both the bully and the victim by promoting understanding, reducing aggression, and nurturing well-being for all. #AntiBullyingWeekUK #RootsofEmpathy #EmpathyInAction #MentalHealth #EmpathyMatters #Inclusion #Wellbeing

Being autistic does not cause poor mental health. Yet autistic people are more likely to die by suicide, more likely to self harm, more likely to have been misdiagnosed with a mental health condition and more likely to be offered mental health treatments that harm rather than help them. These increased risks are caused by prejudice, ignorance, misunderstanding, exclusionary practices and so many other miserable things. But! It is changing, as more and more people get curious and start to question the dismissal of "oh that's because they're autistic" and start to find out why it happens and how to help. Watch out for a series of free training opportunities from me relating to this topic. Check out my autism playlists on my YouTube channel to get informed. https://lnkd.in/ebHVwzDw and to book me to run a training day for you get in touch. #WorldMentalHealthDay, #mentalhealthmatters, #endthestigma, #mentalhealthawarenesss, #YouAreNotAlone, #wellbeing #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #WMHD2024 #WMHD #itsokaytonotbeokay

Additionally, a child’s mental health is significantly influenced by the dynamics of their parents’ relationships. When parental relationships are strained or fail, children may internalize the conflict, develop trust issues, or struggle with emotional stability. This dual impact—on individual confidence and the mental health of children—highlights the importance of fostering healthy communication and emotional resilience in all relationships. July is BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. We know that people of color often face a disproportionate impact from mental health conditions due to the stigma surrounding mental health in BIPOC communities and limited access to mental health resources. WJC primarily serves students of color who come from under resourced communities where they have experienced injustice and violence. Our programs create opportunities for them to find alternatives to conflict through Peer Mediation and Healing Circles. We have found that Healing Circles have helped students foster a sense of belonging and joy, which can significantly impact mental health. Peer Mediation allows students to feel empowered in a supportive environment, while enhancing their communication skills and boosting self-esteem. When young people feel connected and accepted within their communities, they are more likely to experience lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.
