The Great Salt Lake is shrinking at an alarming rate, with serious consequences for the environment and local communities. The decline is driven by climate change and increased water consumption, highlighting the urgent need to address greenhouse gas emissions and implement sustainable water management practices. Preserving this vital ecosystem is crucial for maintaining biodiversity, supporting local economies, and mitigating climate impacts. #climate #climateaction #netzero #impact

Happy International Day of Forests!! Forests have a vital role to play in combatting climate change and sequestering massive quantities of carbon emissions. Climate driven disturbances are being used to justify logging the very forests we need to capture carbon, protect biodiversity, and safeguard communities. Check out our (Carolyn E. Ramírez, Ph.D., Rita Vaughan Frost) new blog on why we cannot log our way out of the climate crisis. #DayOfForests #LetTreesGrow #WorthMoreStanding #InternationalDayOfForests #ClimateForests

Nature based solutions means investing in nature to solve climate change. That is, to increase mitigation potential (absorb carbon emissions), increase adaptation to impacts and reducing loss and damage caused by climate change. And all this using nature. It means protecting natural resources such as wetlands and forests, educating and working with communities, sensitising them on the important role that nature plays in climate protection and ensuring they benefit too. There are other fringe benefits to conserving nature for climate: clean air, better water quality and increased volumes, higher incomes, better livelihoods, biodiversity protection etc. I wrote as post on nature based solutions to climate change, see: #NbS #naturebasedsolutions #climatechange #climateaction #actonclimate #ecosystembasedadaptation #eBA https://lnkd.in/gqBm9x6x

“ By restoring land, we restore life, restore our economies, restore our communities, and so much more. We cannot stop the climate crisis today, biodiversity loss tomorrow, and land degradation the day after. We need to tackle all these issues together.” As former environmental ministers from countries across the globe—North and South, developed and developing—and part of the Nature Now Commission, we could not agree more. The time to act for nature and healthy land, and the people who depend on it, is now. https://lnkd.in/eFw6QYb8

Silos have not worked in business. They are also not working in efforts for slowing global warming. Biodiversity must be recognized as a key element in any efforts made to alter the current landscape, even when the impetus for the project is of the best intentions. Longer term consequences must be carefully considered. #bio4climate #biodiversity #earthcools #reforestation #globalwarming #healingtheplanet #ecorestauration https://lnkd.in/exFc-k4b

Among all the climate change solutions out there, reforestation is a key piece of the puzzle - but where does it fit in the grand scheme of things? A pivotal piece from One Tree Planted delves into how reforestation is a crucial weapon against climate change. Planting trees not only captures carbon dioxide but also restores biodiversity, stabilizes soils, and enhances water cycles, making it a multifaceted solution to environmental degradation. ATLAS-SSI proudly partners with One Tree Planted to advance these reforestation efforts. Each project we undertake contributes to planting trees, intertwining our core operations with actions that directly benefit the planet. Join us in supporting reforestation as a powerful climate action. Together with One Tree Planted, we're not just planting trees—we're planting hope for future generations.
