Everyone recognizes that theater is about dialog. No question. Few recognize that film is about thought. The sophomore filmmaker shoots and cuts by dialog. The cinematic filmmaker shoots and cuts by thought. Being "cinematic" goes deeper than lighting, composition, and camera movement. You'll never be cinematic until you grasp what it means that film is about thought.

Check out Dusty Deen's SKETCHBOOK, VOL. 2, that won Best Experimental Film at the Albuquerque Film Festival. I love representing this guy! Here's Dusty's description: This is the second in the series of sketchbooks. This one was filled between 2020-2022 and features doodles, hand made animations, public sound recordings, collage, and everything else in my brain. Every page contains the phrase “Oh shit!”

“Cinema should capture life in the forms in which it exists and use images of life itself. It is the most realistic art form in terms of form. The form in which the cinematic shot exists should be a reflection of the forms of real life.” Andrei Tarkovsky, a Poet of Cinema. #cinema #filmakers #filmdirectors #ethiipianfilmmakers

My work “TO CONCEIVE AND UNDERSTAND IT ALL” will premiere on May 30th, 2024 during the opening of the. IV INTERNATIONAL ECOPERFORMANCE FILM FESTIVAL São Paulo Edition 30/05/2024 - 02/06/2024 Opening May 30, 6:30 pm to 9 pm: Opening + Session 1 Cine Satyros Bijou, Praça Franklin Roosevelt, 172 – Consolação São Paulo, Brazil At the intersection of cinema, performing arts, and ecology, the festival promotes films of established and emerging interdisciplinary artists investigating the tensions between environment, body, and ancestry in natural, urban, and virtual landscapes. The festival incentivizes films striving for less anthropocentric forms of dramaturgy and cinematography. TO CONCEIVE AND UNDERSTAND IT ALL/ 3:58 min./ Like many of my other works, I reflect on a subject in a metaphorical and fictional way rather than a direct or documentary way. The focus of the work is on mental aspects such as thoughts and feelings about the circumstances of strokes of fate or adversity and what these mean or can do to people. The work contains spoken words and text No scenes of accidents, disasters, terror and war. Neither doves of peace nor moral slogans will appear in the work. It is simply a quiet reflection on all kinds of strokes of fate and the effects that issues such as accidents, catastrophes, terror and war bring with them. Do you have a film idea that you can't wait to bring to life? Making a film requires passion and dedication. Learn from Andrew Chesworth as he screens his latest hand-drawn / CG hybrid short film 'The Brave Locomotive' followed by a making-of presentation and Q&A. The film is a love letter to the musical films of the 1940s Golden Age of animation in both look and form. Full Video: https://lnkd.in/evdXNZtT

Yorgus Lanthimos newest film “Kinds of Kindness” just released in cinema, here’s my review: First of all, why and what is Kinds of Kindness? This time, Lanthimos creates three weird, crazy, darker, humor, unique, uncomfortable, unsettling and even a bit erotic human social experimental fable: Whether it’s Jesse Plemons play as a desperate man, or Emma Stone as a glamorous weird wife or a woman trying to find a saviour no matter what, all these characters are in a kindness heart and character wrapped up to show the sinister of human nature and the coldness of the changing human society, and the simple piano music to a certain extent made me think of Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut with the thrilling piano music, Robbie Ryan the cinematographer gives a settle cinematography and limpid cinematic journey by using various fixed establishing zoom lens shots shows to the audience, take the audience to three different brutal thriller fable story more and more in exposing the truth behind the hypocrisy. It will comfort you but retains a surreal edge. In the end, you may ask yourself what’s kindness and what’s sinister and what’s evil in the human kindness world? No matter what, there is no doubt that Kinds of kindness return of Lantimos that Greek weird storytelling and atmosphere cinematic style, it almost feels like The Killing of Sacred Deer (this particularly shows in the first story, aka The Death of the RMF), in which Kinds of Kindness is also deadly earnest about the many ways in which kindness can be a cruel and deviant master in a decaying society that’s lost its moral compass. And Jesse Plemons just so well deserve the Cannes Best Actor award! (4/5) #kindsofkindness #yorguslanthimos #cannesfilmfestival #jesseplemons #emmastone

"Avenge Me" is a 3-screen video work that reinterprets a powerful moment from the 1984 film *Red Dawn*. Using a clip of Harry Dean Stanton's character, who is held in a Soviet prison camp and shares a final, heart-wrenching meeting with his sons through a chain-link fence, the work taps into themes of loss and emotional finality. The scene's tension is magnified through three looping videos, accompanied by a carefully layered soundscape that blends Stanton’s voice with the raw, mechanical hum of industrial field recordings. The contrast between the 80s action-movie backdrop and the deeply human, emotional core creates a haunting reflection on the fragility of relationships in extreme circumstances. #VideoArt #SoundArt #HarryDeanStanton #RedDawn #ExperimentalFilm #MultimediaArt #FieldRecordings #IndustrialSound#EmotionalArt #80sFilm #FinalMoments #CinematicArt #InterdisciplinaryArt #LoopingVideos #ArtAndSound (Where to exhibit this first is the question!!)
