Not my usual post, but this is really bugging me. There is a big difference between a dangerous tackle and/or play on field and just getting out there and playing footy. Back in the day the on field referee had to call it without the Bunker or being able to check from all angles. Unfortunately, this season there has been a terrible inconsistency in the use of on field refereeing, regarding player misconduct, particularly the use of the sin bin and reporting. Both are very valid tools but have very different objectives. According to NRL rules the first line of response for dealing with misconduct is on field penalties. I understand that the NRL are attempting to ensure the safety of the sport, but offering penalties as preference for the whole team to manage in the moment appears a much better option than Shaming a player with the Sin Bin and Report. It is a Team sport and therefore the whole team need to carry the burden. We have seen that the Sin Bin has been used very in consistently. With memes circulating during SOO to reflect that Qld was petitioning for a NSW to be sent off to give Qld a fighting chance. This is a major point that Bennett makes, that sending players off significantly disrupts the play of the game. In that same SOO match we saw a player have to leave the field for a head rub. There are times when the Sin Bin is essential and quite effective. Footy is intense. Running around for as little as 10 minutes can be enough to flood the brain with endorphins. Being on Report is a sanction determined by the Match Review Committee for a player's behaviour on field for behaviour that violates the Code of Procedure. When considering the outcome for a player facing the Committee they consider Aggravating and Mitigating factors. It would be good if the committee would further define Mitigating Factors as including player in motion. https://lnkd.in/gbP4D_Zu

On the recent law changes…i wish they would add, 1) no picking and going or Driving mauls from on or beyond the 5m (attacking) line. 2) no more tag rugby 3) bring the back line back up to the hind most feet at scrummage. 4) when the ball makes contact with the ground a ruck is formed. My reasons are 1) End Boring predictability 2) Tag promotes all eyes on the tag, not seeing space. An organised game of touch rugby would be much faster, less stop/start. Eg player touched = All defenders move backwards 5 paces & 1st receiver (in Attack) = Approx 5 paces deep from the base. All players have less than 2 seconds to pass unless running into space or being in the clear. 3) A static flat backline is easier to manipulate because a) with more space a defender usually picks up an attackers running line/tactical play sooner. b) If Defenders are further up, attackers will adjust their depth accordingly and defenders will have less time to read plays. c) more space behind for attacking kicks 4) should RE simplify what used to be a SIMPLE game. Make it safer. Ruck/Maul. Hands on/Hands off. Win a ruck by driving a player away and getting beyond the ball. Be allowed to hold the player or rackle to the ground (who is driven off the ball), which will prevent defenders from running away from rucks and spreading wide across the pitch.

VAR'S SALUTARY (NO VIOLENCE RELATED TO REFEREEING),DIVIDEND VIOLENCE IN SPORT WILL ALWAYS FIRMLY BE A NO GO AREA TO PRETEND REFEREES ARE INFALLIBLE ,HOWEVER, IS ALSO A NO GO AREA CAMERAS , EVEN IN RUGBY AND IN SOME OTHER GREAT SPORTS ARE NOW VITAL/ CRUCIAL. THE KEY WITH VAR IN SOCCER IS , IT IS ACTUALLLY AS GOOD FOR REFEREES TOO , WHICH REALITY, SEEMS TO OFTEN BE MISSED, BY MULTITUDES IT GIVES A SECOND BITE OF THE CHERRY TO THE REFEREE, TO LOOK AGAIN!! A SECOND LOOK.THUS A CHANCE TO PONDER AGAN , IF HE MISSED IT THIS, DONE, AWAY FROM IMMEDIATE DECIDING PRESURES IT HELPS REFEREES TO CLEAN THEIR ACT IN REAL TIME BEFORE SOME REPEAT ,REAL HOWLER ERRORS, THAT TRULY THREATEN THE BEAUTIFUL GAME OF BILLIONS, THROUGH UNDULY STEALING PEACE AT THE STADIUM ITS STILL THE REFEREE'S DECISION, ANYWAY; EVEN WITH VAR 👀 👀 👀 🤔 LOOK, WHAT IS THE POINT OF PUNISHING A REFEREE WITH SUSPENSION AND YET FINAL RESULT STILL STANDS. ITS A GLARING & UTTER NONSENSICAL FARCE!!! VAR HELPS AVOID THAT DOUBLE MESSAGING, BY LETTING REFEREE FIX HIS MESS WHILE STILL ON THE PITCH, SO THAT THE FINAL RESULT IS JUST, TO ALL!!! FAR FROM AN INVASION OF REFEREE'S TURF, VAR IS THE REDEEMER OF THE REFEERING PROFESSION , FROM ITSELF!! ALAS! , ACTUALLY REFEREES MIGHT IN FACT BE THE GREATEST BENEFICIARIES OF THE DAWN OF VAR. THEY ARE THEREBY SURELY ACCUSED LESS OFTEN( WHETHER OF SHEER INEPTTUDE OR, EVEN , WORSE, OF CRASS BIAS 👀 )!!!! VAR FICES REFEREES TO LIFT THEIR GAME, TO AVOID BEING REPEATEDLY SHAMED BY AN INNANIMATE OBJECT, A COMPUTER 👀 👀 👀!!! REFEREEING BODIES MUST THUS FIRMLY DEMAND VAR , FOR THEIR MEMBERS' PEACE OF MIND AND FOR THE GAME OF BILLIONS THAT EARNS THEM A LIVING!!!

David Coote Controversy: Have The Fans Been Right All Along? A very shameful video has appeared and circulated on the internet showing an English Premier League referee, David Coote making unsavory comments about Liverpool FC and their former manager, Jurgen Klopp. The clip has sparked controversy and worsened the already suffering public perception of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited and refereeing in the EPL. While the PGMOL has taken action by suspending the concerned referee, much has not been achieved as to the general appreciation of the group. If anything, the development and the very famous circulation of the clip have deepened the distrust held by many football clubs’ supporters about matchday officials and the calls they make. It doesn't make it any easy for all the concerned parties that this controversy is breaking at the start of a season where new rules like the seemingly harsh time-wasting disciplinary action have been introduced. This new regulation has specifically caused bitter reactions as clubs like Arsenal believe they have suffered unfairly under its severe application. This is against some instances where similar events have been ignored or left unpunished in other games where other clubs are involved. Under usual circumstances, everything that went down in a game is interpreted as the referee simply adhering to the letter of the law, a phrase that has been uttered prominently in rationalizing some referee decisions this season. But with the popular circulation of the David Coote tape, that membrane of immunity has been exposed to great pressure, and signs show it would now erode. And that is a great problem for a season shaping up to be a cracker. There are 27 game weeks to go and every offside, handball, penalty, red card, and all other disciplinary action taken by the referees in the remaining 270 games will be second-guessed by the fans and perhaps players alike. They will no longer question these calls as mere banter nor their concerns dismissed hurriedly as sheer conspiracy yarns. Everyone will feel confident in their charge and their proof will be David Coote and his infamous clip. —— This article was published first at The Whistle Global’s website.

BREAKING: David Coote denies allegations he discussed awarding yellow card before match Premier League Referee David Cot Denies Allegations of Fixing Yellow Cards David Cot, a prominent Premier League referee, is once again at the center of controversy as he faces fresh allegations of wrongdoing. The latest scrutiny surrounds a claim made by his son that Cot discussed giving a yellow card to a player before a match. The allegations have sparked outrage in the football community, with many calling for Cot's resignation or at least a thorough investigation. According to the allegations, Cot texted a friend, saying "I hope you backed as discussed" after the match. Cot's son reportedly made the claim, citing the text message as evidence that his father had indeed fixed the game. However, Cot denies any wrongdoing, claiming that the conversation was nothing more than banter in the last few minutes before the match. Cot Responds with a Strong Statement For the first time, Cot has released a statement in response to the allegations, robustly denying the claims and reaffirming his commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game. In the statement, he said: "I strongly refute these false and defamatory allegations. Whatever issues I may have had in my personal life, they have never affected my decision-making on the field. I have always held the integrity of the game in the highest regard, refereeing matches impartially and to the best of my ability." Call for Action The latest allegations have sparked a heated debate among football fans, with many calling for Cot's immediate suspension or resignation. While Cot has denied the allegations, the allegations do raise concerns about the integrity of the game and the reputation of the Premier League. An independent investigation is underway to examine the claims, and the outcome is eagerly awaited. The Premier League has a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of match-fixing, and Cot's reputation hangs in the balance. Will he be able to clear his name, or will the allegations prove too gr... #Sport #allegations #controversy #DavidCot #football #footballcommunity #Integrity #Investigation #matchfixing #PremierLeague #PremierLeagueReferee #PremierLeaguescandal #ref #referee #Sports #sportsallegations #sportscontroversy #sportsnews #yellowcards

There’s no two ways about it. Football has a Values problem. It is the beautiful game … but it desperately needs to work on its flaws. And for those of us who love the game and have followed it with a love and passion that goes beyond a mere hobby … the failures to actively improve the game and address the issues that have plagued it hurts. So here are some of my suggestions to help bring football back to values that are both inspirational and aspirational. 1. A time clock that stops. Time wasting and cynicism has plagued the game for far too long. 2. A microphone on the referee. Disrespect of the referee and refereeing decisions is rampant within the game and it needs to stop. It needs to be outed and dealt with. A mike on the refs is one tool. Not only does it give the fans transparency when it comes to communications on the field and referees decisions but it also requires the players to keep themselves in check. 3. The sin bin. A 10 minute suspension out of the game for players guilty of yellow card offenses. Yellow cards need to matter more and the sin bin is a proven way to ensure players think twice about ill discipline. 4. Video referee interventions for simulations. Fake injuries. Face clutchin. The ridiculous actions of football players on the field constitute actual cheating and should have consequence. We are teaching the billion kids who watch the game some awful stuff if we allow this to continue. Will these issues be addressed? Who knows … but if they are, the game should be better for it. #football #sport #values
