Throwback to a fantastic episode of my virtual podcast from last October, featuring Mr. Rishi Surya Puri the Senior Vice President of MAYFAIR Hotels & Resorts who brings over three decades of invaluable experience in the hospitality industry.
In this episode, Mr. Rishi shared insightful perspectives on the ongoing debate between direct bookings and OTA bookings. He highlighted that, while OTAs are essential for reaching a broader audience, direct bookings are crucial for building a loyal customer base and maximizing profitability.
Mr. Rishi emphasized, "Fostering direct bookings can significantly enhance guest loyalty and reduce dependency on third-party platforms. By leveraging personalized marketing strategies and offering exclusive perks, hotels can encourage more direct interactions with their guests. On the other hand, OTAs play a crucial role in expanding a hotel's reach, attracting new guests who might not have discovered the property otherwise."
Furthermore, we delved into strategies to elevate the guest experience. Mr. Rishi noted, "The key to exceptional guest experience lies in anticipating needs and exceeding expectations. This means investing in staff training, incorporating cutting-edge technology, and continuously seeking guest feedback to refine services.
I wish to meet Mr. Rishi Surya Puri once again and discuss with this industry expert about the industry and gain more knowledge.

On our latest episode of the Shiji Insights podcast we hosted Fernando Vives, Chief Commercial Officer at Minor Hotels, a leading hotel group that includes well-known brands such as NH Hotels, Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, and Anantara Hotels & Resorts. Fernando and host Florencia C. discussed a wide variety of topics and Fernando shared some key insights based on his 25 years of experience in hospitality:
💡 A strong online reputation enhances visibility, allows for higher pricing, and drives repeat business.
💡 Addressing customer reviews thoughtfully can turn negative experiences into positive outcomes.
💡 Attribute-Based Selling (ABS) can help optimise inventory but can be challenging to execute.
💡 Flexible work schedules and a preference for less crowded destinations are leading to a more distributed demand throughout the year.
💡 Aligning corporate identity with major shareholders and maintaining brand recognition can simplify commercial efforts and strengthen market presence.
