This isn't my usual type of post, but it's a poignant one nonetheless. After much reflection and a mix of emotions, I have decided not to renew my HCPC licence as a physiotherapist—a credential I've held for 14 years. Although I have been non-practising for 9 of those years, I've maintained my registration as it's been an integral part of my identity. This decision marks a significant milestone in my professional journey, one that has evolved considerably since I first qualified as a physiotherapist. My career in physiotherapy began with a passion for helping people heal and improve their quality of life. The values of care, dedication, and continuous improvement that define the profession have influenced both my personal and professional development. Each patient, each case, and each challenge in physiotherapy taught me the importance of empathy, precision, and resilience—skills that are just as relevant in the business world as they are in healthcare. However, my career trajectory took a swift turn when I discovered an equally strong passion for the business side of healthcare. I ventured into the world of business, initially as a way to leverage my clinical expertise to improve healthcare delivery on a larger scale, but this quickly grew into a full-time pursuit. I found myself drawn into the business of buying, building, and, later, selling clinics. Today, as the owner of a sector specialist business brokerage focused on the health, medical, and wellness industry, I apply the same principles I valued in physiotherapy—care, dedication, and a commitment to excellence. My background as a physiotherapist has provided a solid foundation for understanding the needs and challenges of healthcare businesses, making me a better broker, dealmaker, and adviser in the space. While I am giving up the physiotherapist title, I remain a staunch supporter of the profession. I continue to advocate for the invaluable work physiotherapists do and the critical role they play in our health system. I believe that my current role allows me to support the healthcare sector in a different, but no less meaningful, way. #physiotherapy #physiotherapist #profession
