Technology is Enabling Improved Sustainability for Dairy & Beef farmers, a trend that must be accelerated if we want to ensure the growing demand for beef & dairy protein is met, while protecting the environment. On the 13th of May, Ludgate Hub invited me to present at their EcoTech 2024 seminar. Moonsyst International are enabling this across the 3 pillars of sustainability by: 1. Improved Animal Health (Social) 2. Strong Business Case for farmers (Economic) 3. Improved efficiencies and GHG monitoring (Environment) The demand for high quality beef & dairy protein is expected to double in the next 25 years, which regions are best equipped to services this demand sustainably? I'd be interested in peoples comments ✍ #SustainableFarming #DairyInnovation #EnvironmentalImpact

The average #egg consumption in Europe? 220 eggs per person, per year, enough to insist egg production is sustainable and resilient. Research project OMELETTE, funded by Interreg Europe, is focussing on hen longevity, integrating animal health and welfare. M3-BIORES, supervised by Professor Tomas Norton, is one of the partners. Sam Willems: “At M3-BIORES, we are taking care of the digital frameworks within OMELETTE. We monitor hen behavior and track flocks to optimize #poultry management. Extending the life of hens is crucial, whilst at the same time maintaining their health, welfare and profitability. A final Longevity Action Plan, based on validated knowledge and #PrecisionLivestockFarming techniques, will later be demonstrated at pilot farms across the region.” Furthermore, OMELETTE aims to bridge the gap between farmers, local authorities and consumers by providing information packs and educational material about egg origin, industry challenges and sectoral efforts. This will raise awareness and stimulate dialogue on egg production and consumption. OMELETTE will run until May 2028, with a budget of €6.325.029, including €3.693.018 in EU funding. Partners involved are KU Leuven, Proefbedrijf Pluimveehouderij , Pehestat, ORBEM, Universität Osnabrück, HATO Agricultural Lighting, Vencomatic Group, Universität Bern, Chambre d'agriculture de Bretagne, INNOZH and French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES).

Don't miss Remo Schmidt's testimonial of his presnetation at the IDF Cheese Science and Technology Symposium in Bergen #Norway. Dr. Schmidt is Head of research group, «Cheese quality, Cultures and Terroir» at Agroscope, #Switzerland. His take-home points are: 👉 Automated Milking Systems (AMS) become increasingly popular in Switzerland, providing a solution for increased farmer well-being, while guaranteeing high animal welfare. 👉 However, the effects of AMS, as well as the increased storage time associated with 24/7 milking, on milk and cheese quality is not fully understood. 👉 In close collaboration with the Swiss artisan cheesemakers, Agroscope has investigated these effects. 👉 While effects were slight, we saw some effect of AMS on microbial communities, detected by well-established practitioners’ tests, highlighting the importance of assessing not only bacterial load, but also reproducibility of bacteria in milk. #IDFCheese2024 #WeAreDairy #ProudToBeDairy

We are excited to collaborate with Zoetis to advance sustainable solutions for animal agriculture! By combining animal health and genetic data with the capabilities of our expert team and Climate-Smart Research Facility, we aim to address key data gaps and improve animal health, efficiency, and sustainability.
We’re pleased to team up with AgNext at Colorado State University to push forward research on sustainable livestock production, bringing together insight from animal health solutions and genetic data. This collaboration is all about bridging existing gaps in data, advancing the technology and management practices that can boost the health and efficiency of cattle without compromising well-being and sustainability. Our focus? Establishing baseline measurements that will become foundational in assessing the cattle lifecycle, providing clarity on the environmental impact of cattle production. By joining forces with a leader in animal and ecosystem health research who understands producer needs to enhance the profitability of the supply chain, we’re supporting farmers and ranchers in meeting their goals to raise healthy cattle and to sustainably provide nutritious foods to meet the growing protein needs of the world's population. 🌍 Did You Know? In Europe, hemp seed co-products are already being used as animal feed, driving innovation and sustainability across the industry. Meanwhile, in New Zealand, it's still banned. 🚫 This is a huge missed opportunity! We have the chance to change this through the Agricultural and Horticultural Products Regulatory Review. Let’s push for the legalization of hemp seed co-products for use in animal feed in New Zealand and unlock the same benefits that Europe is already enjoying: improved animal health, reduced waste, and new economic opportunities. 🌱💪 👉 Support the initiative and make your voice heard NOW: https://buff.ly/474xHaM #ihemp #hemp #nzhia #nzhemp #industrialhemp #hempindustry #AnimalFeed #NZAgriculture #Sustainability #ActNow
