#Britain's Royal Navy is stepping up naval activity in the Pacific, attempting to counter China's growing presence in the region. The Pacific Islands are at the center of an escalating competition between #China and the US for #maritime routes, deep-water ports and other strategic assets due to the countries’ proximity to key shipping lanes and communication cables. The #USA and #France, which also have overseas territories in the South Pacific, have announced similar plans. Since Brexit, the UK are welcoming their traditional allies & past territories closer. The RN will send HMS Prince of Wales (aircraft carrier equipped with F-35 fighters) to the Pacific to wave the flag. Nonetheless, the UK simply can't project #seapower like it once did - the RN has fewer than 70 ships now, compared to the US Navy's over 300 (and still far fewer than China by pure tonnage). The UK's 2 aircraft carriers have been plagued with #engineering problems, and only 2 Patrol Vessels stationed in the Pacific. In this video I talk to the former CO of FS Jacques Chevallier, the new, massive supply vessel of the French Navy. CAPT Pierre Ginefri discusses how his crew was able to reload a VLS at sea while underway and why reloading Frigates and SSNs is important for operational logistics #LOGOPS. In my opinion, the BRF / Jacques Chevallier-class is a game-changer for sustained naval operations (a topic on which the U.S. Navy is actively engaged too) 👀
[VIDEO] First missions of the French Navy's new supply vessel 🇫🇷 The former Commanding Officer of FS Jacques Chevallier, the French Navy's new supply vessel, shares his feedback following the first deployments and missions of the ship. The first-in-class vessel first conducted a long duration deployment which took it to Iceland, Norfolk (USA) and the Red Sea. It then participate in the AKILA mission which included a high intensity training scenario. During this mission, the new supply vessel conducted a first: It participated in the reloading of a VLS aboard aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle with a surface to air missile. It then reloaded a (berthed) FREMM frigate and even two classes of French nuclear-powered submarines (SSN). These events were all "firsts" for the French Navy but were tested in support of the new "LOGOPS" (operational logistics) concept of the French Navy. This class of fleet tankers is known as bâtiments ravitailleurs de forces, or BRF, in French Navy service. They will replace Durance-class vessels. At the end of the video, the new commanding officer shares some comments on what's next for Jacques Chevallier. These interviews were recorded in Toulon in mid-July 2024 during the change of command ceremony aboard the vessel. https://lnkd.in/dxWhJPg5

Boeing awarded $3.4 billion contract for 17 P-8A Poseidon aircraft The US Navy has awarded Boeing a $3.4 billion contract to begin manufacturing 14 P-8A Poseidon aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force and three additional P-8s for the German Navy. “We are proud to add Canada to the list of international P-8 partners as well as to Germany’s fleet of maritime patrol aircraft,” said Philip June, vice president and program manager, P-8A program. “The Poseidon is a proven aircraft, with more than 600,000 flight hours, that will serve Canada and Germany well in today’s challenging security environment and for decades to come.” In November 2023, Canada announced its decision to acquire the P-8A Poseidon to replace its current fleet of CP-140 Auroras. The first P-8A for Canada is expected to deliver in 2026. With the P-8 acquisition, Boeing’s economic commitments to Canada have the potential to generate annual benefits of more than 3,000 jobs for Canadian industry and value-chain partners, and at least $358 million to Canada’s gross domestic product over a 10-year period. #Military #Defence #Aviation #Aerospace #Security #Technology #MaritimePatrol https://lnkd.in/gdz_7uUk

AT&F proudly stood with our OEM customers and colleagues in the Naval industry at this year's Aircraft Carrier Industrial Base Coalition (ACIBC). During the event in DC, we met with members of Congress to discuss our concerns regarding funding gaps for the building of CVN 82 & 83. We wish more people understood just how critical the Carrier program is to the US and its allies around the globe. As our Admirals like to say, "The Nimitz- or Ford-class aircraft carrier is 4.5 acres of sovereign American territory. Aircraft carriers are a floating island of American power that can relocate to anywhere in the world's oceans." It's important to note that the primary purpose of these incredible ships and the men and women who serve aboard them is peacekeeping through deterrence. The latest deployment in the Red Sea to support our allies and ensure the safety of friendly vessels in critical shipping lanes is a great example of this. In peacetime, our carriers have come to the aid of many countries in need. The latest class of carriers includes a sizable onboard hospital with full ER capability and can generate 400,000 gallons of fresh water per day. One example of a carrier strike force helping out in a time of need was during the 2004-2005 Thailand Operation Unified Assistance following the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. We are proud to support the Carrier program and the men and women who serve aboard these ships. #USNavy #CarrierProgram #PeacekeepingthroughDeterrence #AircraftCarrierIndustrialBaseCoalition

Together with its partner Saab, Damen has agreed to export the advanced Expeditionary C-71 submarines. The submarines have been developed for the Royal Netherlands Navy to replace the current Walrus class, but we have now also decided to offer them as an export product. The agreement doubles the long-term prospect of employment and income for the Netherlands Naval Cluster with the replacement of the Walrus submarines by Saab-Damen. Saab and Damen have been working together since 2015 to design, engineer, build, modernise, and maintain the new expeditionary submarine for the Royal Netherlands Navy. This project is so much more than delivering four submarines.Given the geopolitical developments at the moment, Dutch strategic autonomy is vital in strategic projects such as the submarine replacement. Our two companies have now also agreed to offer these advanced Expeditionary submarines to Canada; a country that is exploring a similar submarine capability.

The Royal Netherlands Navy and United States’ Navy conducted bilateral operations in the South China Sea, May 22. Participants included U.S. Navy Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Mobile (LCS 26), Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Wally Schirra (T-AKE 8) and Royal Netherlands Navy De Zeven Provinciën-class frigate HNLMS Tromp (F803). The bilateral operation provided a valuable opportunity to improve allied interoperability and conduct complex scenarios to improve combined readiness. The U.S. Navy regularly participates with allies and partners in high-end maritime exercises and operations, which have continued to grow in scale, scope and complexity, to create combined operations that enhance interoperability, boost deterrence and demonstrate shared resolve. During the operation, Commander, Destroyer Squadron 15 acted as a facilitator between DESRON 7 and the Netherlands. Multilateral operations improve interoperability between allied navies and support a free and open Indo-Pacific. These evolutions demonstrate the strength of regional partnerships, interchangeability and cooperation. As the U.S. Navy’s forward-deployed DESRON in Southeast Asia, DESRON 7 serves as the primary tactical and operational commander of littoral combat ships rotationally deployed to the U.S. 7th?Fleet area of responsibility, functions as Expeditionary Strike Group 7’s Sea Combat Commander and builds partnerships through training and exercises and military-to military engagements. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gNnD_3FU

The 349th Air Mobility Wing consists of 2,700 Citizen Airmen who get the best of both worlds. They are held to the same standards for training and skills qualification as their active-duty counterparts, yet they also maintain civilian careers. TLDR; They’re getting extra income and the pride of service balanced with the civilian sector. Why lose out when you could win: http://spr.ly/6048sPYUr
