The fact that this has to be stated should clearly illustrate how dogmatic and un-objective our scientific research and publication process has become. Divergent Thinking and listening to dissenting voices with empathy and openess is where real science progress is made. Adopting Consensus (via Plead to Authority) or following a single narrative is where science ends. https://lnkd.in/gvpqH9ez

New #ScienceBitesBlogging! #SciPolBites is a series of reflections from NSPN members about current issues in science and policy. In this #SciPolBite, we explored who is supporting us scientifically, who has science's back, and how we know who to trust (or not) with our science. Our members discuss scientific publishing and the industries funding research to ask questions about whether the systems in place are truly promoting scientific progress for all. I’m happy to share our latest white paper, "Guiding transdisciplinary synthesis processes for social-ecological policy decisions", a result of our work in the Biota Synthesis project. In this study, we explore how interdisciplinary synthesis research can overcome challenges in connecting science and public policy on socio-ecological issues. We present key insights, such as: ✅ Flexibility in collaborative dynamics; ✅ Creation of platforms to share non-academic outputs; ✅ Promoting horizontal interactions between science and policy. Our main goal is to strengthen the co-production of practical and actionable knowledge, directly impacting decision-making for a more sustainable future. 📄 Read the full article: DOI: https://lnkd.in/ewV7hjzy 🌐 Learn more about the Biota Synthesis project: https://lnkd.in/eS6QgQ5D #scienceandpractice #sustainability #publicpolicy #research #biotasynthesis #biotasintese #cienciaepratica #politicaspublicas

Do check out this great ASAPbio and Arcadia Science webinar on gauging the impact of science. The webinar (and lively discussion) explores how traditional signals of scientific quality — journal titles, closed peer review, and impact factors — fail to reflect the utility and rigor of scientific work, and opens up the conversation on what could be better alternatives to help demonstrate the impact of research.

This is a true milestone. There is a nice explainer, and a link to the paper (authored by a 94 yr old!). The significance for biodiversity science is enormous. And, as COP16 approaches, we are increasingly aware we need ALL the tools we can get.
The first scientific publication using #digitalspecimen #DOIs is out, a huge contribution to inter-institutional scientific work.
