I’ve been doing this writing thing for a long time. Over the years, design tools have changed. Website development tools have changed, too. In many cases, design and dev now happen simultaneously, directly in the browser. But where does that leave copywriting? From a practical and technical standpoint, it feels like the workflow for website copy might need an upgrade. Do we need separate copy docs anymore? Should we be doing all editing right in the browser, in the staging environment? Should we let clients make comments using bug-tracking tools, instead of redlining or tracking changes? Or do the “old ways” with separate copy sheets still have value, even as inefficient as it can be to edit in multiple places, multiple times, throughout development? How are you handling the website copy workflow in this new world?

I've always thought that creating a website or writing a piece of copy, is a lot like solving a puzzle. There are lots of ways of doing it, and none of them are wrong if you end up in the right place. With a puzzle, there are lots of individual pieces of information that quite obviously fit together, but it's up to the puzzle solver/me to work out what sequence those individual facts should be presented in, or how the information should be grouped, to create an accurate picture. It doesn't make sense to only start putting the puzzle together once I've found the piece in the top left-hand corner. Or come up with the right introduction or home page layout straight off the bat. I start every project from the first piece of the puzzle that catches my eye or makes an impression on me, and then I go looking for the rest of the information, relative to that. My goal when putting a puzzle together is to create a complete picture, based on the vision that the puzzle maker had. My goal with a website, is to create a complete picture based on the vision that the business owner has, adjusted for information outside their field of vision. Like what sort of vibe I get from them when I talk to them and work with them, which would probably be the same vibe that a potential client would get when they talk to, or work with them. And taking that thought a step further, what sort of person or client, is that kind of vibe likely to resonate with, based on what they are most likely looking for from my client. Which is almost never just 'the thing they're selling'. What's your process when working on creating projects? Start at the beginning or start some other way? #webdesign #wordpress #copywriter

By doing SEO, I had to learn: - Web design - Content writing - Intermediate coding - Conversion Rate Optimization - Graphics design (Canva & Photoshop) - Tons of other skills which I use on a daily basis I've also learned not to: - complain to clients - put off work - do everything as the same priority None of these skills are necessary. But they make my life a TON easier.

Content design isn't copying and pasting onto a website. It's about understanding the user needs, plain English, knowing from experience what works, using the best layout, checking the flow of the pages, and getting rid of terminology that doesn't make sense to public eyes. It's not - "just copy and paste it" or "it's been signed off, I know you weren't involved but it doesn't matter" (when it makes 0 sense), or "just get it done". https://lnkd.in/e96Ci6x6
