Its important to say that young professionals are tired of the countless questionares, resume editing, and video essays for the chance to work for a companies that exchange labor for experience/exposure. All of this work feels more like the pitiful and desperate audition for a highschool play. RATHER THAN An equnamious exchange for labor and fresh ideas in an increasingly BRUTAL job market. what the hiring process needs is the ability to gauge Connection and Compatibility! We MUST explore how "vibes" play a crucial role informing connections and relationships. When meeting someone in person, we often rely on our intuition or gut feeling to assess whether we resonate with them or not. I should not hear "we are looking for students with finance experience, or, we are looking for students with marketing experience, or, we are looking for students with arts management experience" from anyone hiring an intern. People - we all have got to start SOMEWHERE! Hiring teams have lost sight of what an internship actually IS. It's NOT... a... job. You want an intern? That means YOU have to work. This is your opportunity to give back and teach. Sure the intern can -and should be of help and service. BUT, that student is YOUR APPRENTICE. Teach them what to do. Mold them on the ways of work. Watch them grow and thrive because of YOUR mentorship. Make a difference in that person's life. We have seriously lost our way. #Internships #hiring #earlycareer #students

We're hiring a Marketing Intern right now. Here are 2 takeaways from my viewpoint on hiring for this position. Hopefully, they might help those looking to land an internship this Fall or those frustrated. 1. This position is competitive, even for a small agency like mine. We have 10 great candidates so far who will all be explored further. The job post has been up for less than a week and has no crazy ad budgets behind it. While the job description mentions previous work experience as a plus in the field, most of the top applicants already have prior work experience in the field. 2. I'm surprised at the lack of traction on Handshake. It's the platform our local university encourages students to use to land internships. A small handful of students have completed their profiles, but most of them just have the basic information. Students can set themselves apart by including a photo of themselves and a little more depth on their profiles, especially for a marketing role where some of these skills will come into play. Interviews are already filling up my available time this week and next. I'm excited to get to know the applicants a little better and try to find the best fit for both sides for this role!

Sharing this out because it’s so rare to find an intern who has effectively communicated their advertising media internship experience via LinkedIn the way this intern did and they deserve their flowers. If I’m hiring for an entry level role within media, and you happen to apply, and you ALSO happen to have relevant internship experience….this is exactly what I’m looking for. Let’s break it down: 📘 There is clear communication of relevant responsibilities using specific soft skills, tools (hard skills) and mediums of media. 📗Mention of campaigns monitoring, tracking performance and communication being utilized in a team setting 📕Mention of dealing with billing issues and media vendors. 📓 In the skills section, they mention relevant hard skills. 📙Clear description of how their work made an impact to the teams goals and responsibilities. Now I understand not every single one of you is going to have this kind of experience, but if you do, this is how you effectively, and clearly communicate said experience to a recruiter via LinkedIn. To my fellow graduates and internship seekers: it is CRUCIAL to communicate your experience in a way that resonates with recruiters. One thing I’ve consistently heard from recruiters, mentors, HR managers, and higher-ups is that any experience can be valuable—as long as you know how to frame it!
