This week, I tried something new: my first ever archery competition, and I finished last. It’s the first time I’ve ever come last, or even close to last, in anything. Ever.
Competing with just two months of practice against participants with decades of experience and $4.5K bow setups was no small challenge. The distance was twice what I usually shoot (10 metres), and there were no practice rounds to warm up. Archery isn’t about trying harder or going faster. It’s about precision, focus, and consistency with every shot.
Knowing early on that I wouldn’t place was tough, and humbling, but I stayed determined. I ended the competition with a 10X on my final arrow, showing the value of persistence and focus. Archery teaches you to reset with every shot, follow your routine, and keep pushing forward—a lesson that goes far beyond the range.
How does this relate to B2C sales? Well, I joked with a club member who owns an archery shop that if I’m likely to finish last again next year, I might be in the market for some high-end gear.
P.S. I placed last in the adult category, but 116/300pts at 22 metres is still a good start.
