The new 6G-IA whitepaper is a great source to find out what is going on in Europe on 6G research. The whitepaper addresses use cases and business aspects, technological enablers, 6G architecture, major differences with respect to 5G, and next steps in standardization, regulation. Here, I visualized LTE reception data from the OpenCellID source, which offers over nine years of global cellular communication data. While my primary focus was on Armenia, I aimed to present this data visually, showcasing radio signal density and range received by contributors' devices

We recently attended the network meeting for wireless communication systems in industrial environments at the SmartFactoryOWL, Lemgo. Experts, specialists and end users came together for a day at the invitation of Fraunhofer IOSB-INA to discuss current trends and topics. Among other things, there were lively discussions about the coexistence of different wireless technologies in the industrial environment. The HMF team had brought along the 5G Smart Box, a fully comprehensive 5G system for a wide range of Industry 4.0 applications. One of our current research projects on the future of mission-critical communication was also presented at the network meeting: Together with Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences and other partners, we are currently working on the TETRA++ project. We are testing the interoperability, availability and scalability of mission-critical communication via 5G in two real applications. Work on studying the 6G radio interface is expected to start after Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona in the second half of 2025, John Smee, senior VP of engineering and global head of wireless research at Qualcomm, told Fierce on a call last week. He said that Qualcomm and its partners at the 3GPP are starting to “design a new air interface that’s not backwards-compatible – that’s the G definition right there – it means we’re designing a new waveform to enable new devices to offer that next level of performance,” Smee said.
