Young lawyers especially those from the first generation, must create their own space in the legal profession. Here are some ways to carve out your niche. Participate in seminars and conferences, as a panelist or speaker. Write articles for newspapers & journals. Socialise with your potential clients such as corporates and their legal heads etc. Take interest in activities and functions of the Bar. Align and develop associations with colleagues, who could refer some work to you which they don’t do and vice versa. Take up pro bono work. Build up a quantum of work, even if the fee structure isn’t upto your level. I wish to see young first generation lawyers flourish in the legal profession. It’s always such a pleasure meeting young first generation lawyers.
