Saudi Arabia has secured the 14th spot globally and ranked first among Arab countries in the 2024 Global AI Index, published by Tortoise Intelligence. This achievement highlights the Kingdom’s leadership in artificial intelligence and its strategic focus on AI development. The Kingdom continues to lead in the Government Strategy sub-pillar, reflecting its robust framework for AI integration and governance. Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s seventh-place ranking in the Commercial Ecosystem sub-pillar showcases its commitment to investing in AI technologies and fostering a vibrant AI-driven economy. The Global AI Index, which assesses AI capabilities across 83 countries, is based on 122 indicators grouped into three pillars: Implementation, Innovation, and Investment. These pillars are further divided into seven sub-pillars: Talent, Infrastructure, Operating Environment, Research, Development, Government Strategy, and Commercial Ecosystem. Globally, the United States took the top position, followed by China and Singapore. Among other Arab nations, the UAE ranked 20th globally and second in the region, while Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Oman secured spots between 52nd and 64th. Strengthening National Partnerships in Artificial Intelligence Today, along with my colleagues from the Executive Committee for Artificial Intelligence, we had the privilege of holding a productive meeting with the President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in the presence of most department directors at the authority. The meeting was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and enhance collaboration between the National Committee and SDAIA. During the meeting, we agreed on several initiatives that will contribute to achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in the field of AI and data: 1. Establishing a joint workshop between the National Committee and SDAIA to facilitate knowledge and expertise sharing. 2. Involving the National Committee, represented by the Investment Committee, in discussions with official delegations visiting SDAIA. 3. Coordinating efforts between the Federation of Saudi Chambers and SDAIA to participate in the Smart Cities Conference, scheduled for September 2025. This collaboration underscores our commitment within the Executive Committee for Artificial Intelligence to advancing the AI ecosystem in Saudi Arabia and supporting the country’s digital transformation strategies.
