Champagne- Domaine Jacques Selosse "From Grape to Stars" Project in Champagne Anselme Selosse The series represents vats of fermenting wine seen from above. Every year I work with the most prestigious French wine estates in the four weeks following the harvest. It is a work on the concept of transformation, in this case that of grapes into wine, which is found everywhere in the universe. By plunging my gaze into the organic, I show how Man, who is at the heart of this transformation, reveals its cosmic dimension. In this visual metaphor where the vats of wine strangely resemble planets made like us of nitrogen, calcium, and iron I myself transform into “Stardust” to touch, for a moment, the origin of life. I go back in time to capture the DNA of these iconic wines in the early days of their birth. 2006 Chateau Lynch Bages didn't disappoint. Its brooding, almost opaque color hinted at the depth within, complemented by youthful aromatics of cassis, blueberries, and black cherries, alongside notes of cigar smoke, shoe polish, Asian spice mix, and crushed oyster shells.⁠ ⁠ The flavor profile mirrors the aroma, with a ripe and dense palate showcasing a harmonious interplay between sweet and savory black fruit, accented by graphite and crushed oyster shells. Savory acidity provides a refreshing lift, characteristic of Bordeaux wines known for their density and richness, yet bright and energetic.⁠ ⁠ As classic as they come, the wine leaves behind a great mineral residue with a sappy and lively aftertaste that invites you to savor each sip. This well-proportioned wine from a classical vintage will benefit from at least 10, if not 20 years of aging to achieve optimal maturity, making it well worth the wait. 93+⁠ ⁠ While 2009 and 2010 may be superior vintages, requiring 30+ years of aging, the 2006 vintage offers fantastic value, especially considering its current price of £500/6 compared to £630/6 for 2009 & 2010. Hierarchies // Benjamin Lewin MW examines wine's proliferating pecking orders. Consider two extreme systems for describing wine: One is to assume that origin is important and to assign every plot of land a position in a hierarchy. Burgundy is the paradigm, of course. The 747 is the new release for Jacquesson's 2024 'Programme,' as they call it. The 700 series represents an interesting approach to non-vintage Champagnes, aiming to release the best cuvée each year anew and no longer adhering to a specific style. The logic behind this decision is apparently that the 700 series represents the best cuvée produced in a given year, and therefore, another cuvée with the same vintage cannot be released. Champagne has a terroir character, which, as a natural product, varies from vintage to vintage, origin, and growing conditions. It focuses on the distinct personality of a vintage, which is then stylistically complemented by noble reserve wines from older vintages. The 742 DT is the second new release for Jacquesson's 2024 'Programme. The 700 series Dégorgement Tardif DT : Since Jacquesson has moved to the philosophy of only releasing the 700 series wine every year, they decided to hold some back each year for an extended aging period on the lees with natural cork (sous-liège) and to release this wine as "Dégorgement Tardif" 5 years later.  Dizy Terres Rouges 2015 is the only lieu-dit new release for Jacquesson's 2024 'Programme. The lieu-dit (single-vineyard) line-up: Jacquesson also produces tiny quantities of its terroir-based cuvées, each from a unique parcel of vines. These Champagnes showcase some of the region’s finest terroirs and is a must buy for collectors and anyone interested in the terroir of Champagne, demonstrating an extraordinary vinosity and expression of place. Our latest offer is the 2020 I Sodi di San Niccolo from Domini Castellare di Castellina, described by Antonio Galloni as ‘magical. This is remarkable in every day’, awarding it 97+ points. This particular wine caught our attention back in the 2013 vintage; we predicted great things for the estate. The 2016 seemed to confirm our initial belief, and now we have accessed a well-priced parcel of the 2020. Atlas’ MD Simon Larkin MW once commented that it was ‘heartening to still be able to pick up a lesser-known wine of similar calibre at a fraction of the price (of leading Tuscan Sangiovese)...but for how long will this be the case?’. A few years later, the same comment applies; it still ranks as a remarkably fairly priced Sangiovese, when judged against Pergole Torte, Flaccianello et al. The blend is 85% Sangioveto (a synonym for Sangiovese) and 15% Malvasia Nera and it makes for a head-turning wine, showing all the ripeness you might expect in a strong Tuscan vintage, but none of the austerity that can typify young Sangiovese.
