Below - quick summary of the South African unruly passenger regime in light of the recent Fly Safair incident. Please note that over and above the legally mandated consequence management, the airline can still opt to blacklist the passenger to curtail any future flights on its fleet (no-fly list). Further, owing to the racist nature of the utterances made by the unruly passenger, the Human Rights Commission might be involved if any aggrieved individual decides to lodge a complaint. Further, the possibility of a civil suit by any affected individual inside that aircraft might also be visited upon the aggressor.

Australia introduced a contactless immigration clearance pilot way back in 2018 at Sydney airport on Qantas flights. VisionBox were the pioneers of this technology and were the company that provided the solution. It allowed pre-registered passengers to have contactless immigration clearance (no presentation of passport) via face recognition. This is similar to what Singapore is doing now 5 years later. Singaporean citizens can use the system because they have already enrolled multiple biometrics (finger, face, iris) as part of their national ID card. Some foreign citizens can use it for departure clearance once they have registered on arrival. I designed a similar system for Hong Kong back in 2018. However Scott Morrison's government in their wisdom decided that in the midst of Covid when this type of solution would have been instrumental in preventing Covid transfer via passport handling, Australian Border Force decided it was more important for people to visit India for a wedding or Swim the English Channel than allow experts to travel and implement this in other international airport hubs.
Just landed in Australia ❤️🙏 I did my best but … I failed this test Magnifying glass required to write in the boxes 🤓 These cards 🤦🏻♂️will not be missed - bring on the pilot for a digital declaration form ✅ Still long queues here at passport control (officials are doing their best to herd us) - feels like a sheep 🐑 dip ie whole process needs to be re-worked When overseas I saw what they were doing re passport less entry - I hope we introduce this one day soon 🙏
