Yesterday was my 5-year anniversary at IGEN! 🎉 So I figured this week was the perfect time to tell my story:
I was at my first "real" job—a place full of down-to-earth, fun, and kind people.
Some of the relationships I built there are still strong. In fact, one of those colleagues has become an amazing friend, and I'm even the godmother to her son!
After about 18 months there, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was missing.
Around that time, I had the opportunity to interview for a role with U.S. Venture, Inc. that ultimately didn't materialize, but the experience gave me the drive to be open with my leader about my career aspirations and the professional development opportunities I was looking for.
Things like:
⚙ Autonomy in my role
⚡ Capacity to influence marketing strategy
🏠 Flexibility in my work environment
💡 Opportunities to expand my horizons
One day, while sitting at a rooftop bar in downtown Green Bay (Titletown Brewing for anyone who knows the area), I pointed to the industrial office building next door and said to my husband (who was probably tired of listening to me talk about work), "It would be so cool if I worked somewhere like that one day!"
Less than a year later, I was working at IGEN (a division of U.S. Venture) as a marketing specialist. The office was in that exact industrial office building, in downtown Green Bay.
When IGEN had posted that specialist role, I decided to throw my hat in the ring and had just clicked 'submit' on my application, when an email from the recruiter came in, inviting me to apply!
Turns out the team remembered me from that opportunity months before; I guess it was just one of those moments when all the stars align! ✨
Over the last five years, I've had the opportunity to see my vision come to life, make mistakes, become a leader, build a marketing engine from the ground up, make more mistakes, drive change, and so much more.
It's been challenging, fulfilling, and most importantly, never boring.
A heartfelt thank you to Kayla Hill for recruiting me, Mercedes Bereza for interviewing me, Ryan Padget and Nick M. for supporting my journey, and Nicole Wilson for always being an honest sounding board.
Here's to the next 5 years! 🌟
