WARNING! Here is a good example of why it is so important that the correct breathable and sustainable materials are used on old properties with solid walls. This is a picture of a cob built cottage in Devon where a non-breathable cement render has been applied to the cob instead of using lime causing a significant part of the gable end to collapse and be unstable. The likelihood is that the buildup of mositure within the cob has caused the cement render to breakaway from the cob substrate. Solid wall properties need to breathe. Applying a brethable lime render and coating with a breathable exterior paint system such as the Earthborn - beautifully different paint Silicate Masonry range will ensure that the rain from the outside doesn't penetrate the substrate and that the moisture levels from inside the building can escape through the wall and the paint coating. #listedproperties #periodproperties #historicproperties #breathablematerials #breathablepaints
