Day 13: GBV and Climate Change The link between climate change and gender-based violence (GBV) is undeniable, especially for the elderly and women who are disproportionately affected. Climate-related disasters displace communities, disrupt livelihoods, and often lead to unsafe environments, heightening the risks of GBV. In these challenging times, it is crucial to: Advocate for inclusive climate policies that address the unique vulnerabilities of women and elderly individuals. Collaborate with environmental organizations to create safer, sustainable, and resilient communities. Raise awareness about the intersection of climate-induced displacement and GBV, emphasizing prevention and protection measures. We are committed to creating safer spaces for all through education, community action, and advocacy. Together, we can champion environmental justice while ensuring that no one regardless of age or gender is left behind in the fight against GBV. #EnvironmentalJustice #GBVandClimateChange #donyajusticenetworkkenya #ClimateActionNow #EndGBV #SustainableFuture #GenderEquality #HumanRights #SafeCommunities #EmpowerChange #ClimateJustice #ProtectTheVulnerable #InclusiveAction #intersexkenyaeducationandsdvocacy

Climate change poses a grave threat to fundamental human rights, including the rights to life, water and sanitation, food, health, and housing, among others. It is our collective responsibility to uphold the dignity of the people whose future we work to secure. Without the necessary measures implemented to reduce fossil fuel use and address the injustices of climate change, we fail to uphold the rights of every person on the planet, including our own. We must ensure that climate policies prioritize inclusivity, addressing the needs of those most vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis. This includes women, children, Indigenous communities, gender-diverse individuals, and all groups disproportionately at risk due to human rights violations under oppressive regimes. This International Human Rights Day, we join the rest of the world in advocating for the dignity of every person to be upheld through the respect of each and every one of their rights. #caricomclimate #buildingresilience #futuresecured #HumanRightsDay #HumanRights

Climate change and human rights are interconnected. Vulnerable communities are the most impacted as the climate crisis escalates, worsening issues like poverty, displacement and health disparities. Human rights are at risk when people lose their homes to rising sea levels, face extreme weather conditions, or suffer from inadequate access to clean water and food. Climate change is thus not only an environmental challenge, but also a crucial human rights issue. Effective climate action requires ensuring that marginalized communities participate in decision making, that their rights are protected and that there are mechanisms in place to support those most affected by climate change impacts. This approach helps to faster equity and justice in both the climate and human rights arena. #climatechange. #sustainability

Today, more than 1.8 billion people live in fragile contexts where access to basic human rights, like clean water, food, and shelter, is severely compromised. These challenges are exacerbated by the climate crisis, which is fast becoming one of the greatest threats to human rights globally. Yesterday, we commemorated Human Rights Day, reflecting on the theme "Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now" and its urgent connection to climate change. The climate crisis is not just an environmental challenge; it’s a human rights crisis. A clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is essential to upholding fundamental rights. Yet, climate change continues to exacerbate inequalities, endanger access to water, food, and shelter, and disproportionately impact vulnerable communities. The numbers are sobering: 🌍 Over 2.2 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water, with climate change intensifying droughts and water scarcity. 🌿 9 out of 10 people breathe polluted air, a direct result of reliance on fossil fuels, impacting both human health and the climate. 🏝 680 million people living in low-lying coastal areas are at risk as sea levels rise. Human rights and climate action must go hand in hand. Tackling the climate crisis isn’t just about saving the planet; it’s about protecting the rights to life, health, and dignity for all. #HumanRightsDay #ClimateJustice #OurRightsOurFuture #SustainableFuture
