Did You Know ⁉️   ➡️ The WorldView Legion fleet includes the first Maxar satellites in mid-inclination orbit (MIO), meaning they orbit around Earth's center rather than over its poles as the rest of our constellation does in sun-synchronous orbit (SSO). Satellites in SSO typically collect imagery from mid-morning to early afternoon, but expanding to MIO enables dawn-to-dusk collection. 🕗   Access to MIO will help us gain views at this level of detail into previously hard to see areas, with positive implications for timely missions such as #Defence and #DisasterResponse.   #ItTakesaLegion #ViewfromSpace

From Earth to Orbit: how we deploy cubeSATs. Selecting the right orbit is crucial for CubeSAT missions. Most CubeSATs operate in 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗿𝗯𝗶𝘁 (𝗟𝗘𝗢) about 200–2000 km above Earth, which supports efficient data transmission with lower power needs. Within LEO, 𝘀𝘂𝗻-𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗶𝘁 (𝗦𝗦𝗢) is ideal for Earth observation, as it lets CubeSATs pass the same area daily, providing consistent lighting for imaging. After choosing an orbit, the focus shifts to deployment. CubeSATs often launch as “secondary payloads,” hitching a ride on rockets carrying larger satellites, which makes space access affordable. Using deployers like the 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆-𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗼𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗿 (𝗣-𝗣𝗢𝗗), CubeSATs are released into their orbits once the rocket reaches the correct orbit. Alternatively, CubeSATs can deploy from the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗜𝗦𝗦) using robotic arms. This method involves sending CubeSATs to the ISS on cargo missions and is ideal for missions matching the ISS orbit. #KenyaInSpace

Arianespace announced last week that the launch, which had been scheduled for this Tuesday, would be delayed a day to allow more time for final checkouts. The launch will be the first for the Vega C since a failure nearly two years ago blamed on the rocket's solid-fuel second-stage motor. That motor has been redesigned and successfully completed two static-fire tests earlier this year. The payload for the launch is the Sentinel-1C radar imaging satellite for the Copernicus program of Earth observation missions. It will replace the Sentinel-1B radar imaging satellite that malfunctioned nearly three years ago and was declared a loss in August 2022. https://lnkd.in/eY49AxJK

Great job by Clint Clark #ExoAnalytics and CMSgt Ronald Lerch on the threat brief at #SpacePower2024 The video shows the debris generated when a satellite (Intelsat 33e on 19 October 2024) breaks up. This real world data is similar to what would happen if an adversary were conduct a kinetic attack on a satellite in a geosynchronous orbit. The debris (yellow dots) is what we can see from earth, 23,000 miles away. In reality there is much more debris we can’t see, that could be lethal to critical satellites in this orbit. This debris will be on orbit for hundreds of thousands of years or maybe millions of years threatening current and future generations of spacecraft which support our way of life on earth. China: Fifth Gaofen-12 satellite enters orbit for China's national Earth observation system, with stated focus areas including land surveys, urban planning and road network design "Resolution capabilities and other information has been published for lower numbered Gaofen series satellites. Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL), a subsidiary of Tata Sons, successfully launched the country's first-ever military-grade geospatial satellite built entirely by the private sector on April 7, The Economic Times (ET) reported. Named TSAT-1A, the sub-metre resolution earth observation satellite was launched in collaboration with Satellogic. The launch took place from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, courtesy of SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. Manufactured at its Vemagal facility in Karnataka, the TSAT-1A was part of the payload aboard the Bandwagon-1 mission. Weighing less than 50 kg, TSAT-1A now orbits the Earth in low-earth orbit, poised to deliver high-resolution imagery with remarkable precision, less than one metre per pixel. TASL officials have confirmed that the satellite has entered the designated orbit and will undergo thorough testing over the coming weeks to ensure its full functionality. Once operational, TSAT-1A is expected to cater primarily to the government and armed forces, offering high-resolution military-grade imagery. According to media reports, although the primary customers will be the government and armed forces, the company will also target commercial customers. ET reported that plans are already underway to establish a ground centre in India for data download and processing. Currently, India possesses a limited number of military spy satellites developed by ISRO. TASL intends to establish a constellation of similar satellites in the future, with its manufacturing facility primed to produce up to 25 low earth orbit (LEO) satellites annually, the business-daily reported. A Massive Boeing Satellite Just Exploded in Orbit Over Earth: Teams are tracking 57 pieces of the object. A Boeing-built satellite operated by Intelsat, called IS-33e, unexpectedly exploded in geostationary orbit over the weekend. It resulted in a total loss. Intelsat confirmed an "anomaly" caused the breakup, with recovery efforts now focused on rerouting services across its fleet. The U.S. Space Force reported tracking 20 debris fragments from the incident, while private firm ExoAnalytic Solutions identified 57. No immediate threats have been detected. The satellite, launched in 2016 to provide broadband services across Europe, Africa, and Asia, faced issues early on, using more fuel than expected and cutting its 15-year lifespan short by 3.5 years.
