We explore the heart of #CircularDesign by taking a closer look at the area of color, material and finish (CMF) and the opportunities for designers to design with more sustainable materials. Philippe Starck spoke with FRAME about his recent work for Andreu World, explaining why balancing craft with tech fulfils our need to create with that for more responsible practice. STARCK envisions a new era of design that seamlessly blends age-old craft with cutting-edge technology. This philosophy is perfectly captured in the Olena chair, his latest creation for the brand. Imagine this: an "eco-tech vision" of a medieval chair, crafted from just 3 pieces of plywood and 3 wooden clavets. Starck calls this approach "eco-tech," a beautiful marriage of nature's wisdom, traditional human skills, and the boundless potential of technology. This isn't just about aesthetics; it's about achieving true sustainability – a core focus of Starck and Andreu World's collaboration. As Starck says, creating is fundamental to humanity, but we must do it responsibly. "That's why the subject is to use the minimum of everything and to design for longevity, for transmission – for heritage,' Stack says. ‘Modernity is longevity.'" #PolyUDesign_TeachingLearning During the pandemic, public health has been increasingly emphasised, and creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone has become a hot topic.    The "Immu Chaise," supported by Public Design Lab, Co-designer and project PI - Prof. Kin Wai Michael Siu and Designer - Chi Hang Paul Lo, is leather public furniture with antiviral material. It is composited with leather and other materials and has antimicrobial properties that prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms. Besides its antibacterial powers, antiviral leather is also environmentally friendly. The manufacturing process involves sustainable practices and materials, reducing environmental impact and a lower carbon footprint.    We are thrilled to announce that the project has received the prestigious Green Good Design Award 2024.
