Palworld’s Player Count Soars by 700% Following New Update
Palworld’s latest update has introduced a new island, Sakurajima, along with a host of new Pals, enemies, and items. This substantial update, the largest since the game's release in January 2024, has led to a significant surge in popularity, with player counts soaring across all platforms.
Using Steam as an example, Palworld's player count skyrocketed by more than 700%, jumping from a peak concurrent count of around 15,000 users before the update to over 130,000 after its release. While this surge is impressive, it doesn’t quite restore Palworld to its former peak popularity. In January, at the height of the Palworld hype, the game reached a peak of 2.1 million concurrent players on Steam, making it one of the most-played games ever on the platform. This was driven by the unique ‘Pokémon with guns’ concept that attracted a massive player base.
Since then, things had quieted down for Palworld, but this latest update has rekindled interest in the game. According to Pocket Pair, the game’s developer, there is much more to come. Later this year, an arena mode will be introduced, allowing players to battle against each other, similar to traditional Pokémon battles but with the addition of assault rifles and grenades, true to Palworld’s unique style.
