The scenes in Paris have heightened sympathy for Tokyo. The organisers of the #2020OlympicGames faced insurmountable challenges, and when the rescheduled event was held in 2021, the streets were empty, and there was silence at the venues. But in 2024, the threat of COVID was ignored, with crowds in the host city and the cry of “Allez” at the aquatic centre both lasting memories of #Paris2024.  #Paris2024 has provided a welcome distraction from mundane life, tragic world events, and the horrific scenes that feature all too often on television news. The Games have been an opportunity to breathe rather than sigh, to shout with joy rather than despair, to embrace and celebrate together. Perhaps, it is a response to the decision by the IOC to add ‘Together’  to the Olympic motto of ‘Higher, Faster, Stronger’. Or, perhaps the atmosphere that has permeated Paris follows initiatives taken by the organisers of the Paris Games. The seating layout at the Aquatic Centre allowed competitors to embrace family and friends after completing their races and the Champions Park beneath the Eiffel Tower was the place where medal winners could party with spectators within touching distance of their newly-minted heroes.  It is hoped that #LosAngeles2028 and #Brisbane2032 will find other ways to enhance the joyful sharing. The journey will begin on April 16, 2024, in the ancient city of Olympia, Greece, where the flame will be lit. Reflecting on the recent article by The Guardian, "Sport is never just sport: Olympics exhibition in Paris reflects 20th century’s highs and lows," I am reminded of the vast canvas upon which the Olympic Games paint the story of our shared humanity. From the shadows of the 1936 Berlin Games to the powerful podium protest in Mexico City 1968, the Olympics have been a stage for not just athletic prowess but pivotal moments of social and geopolitical significance. As we look towards the Paris Olympics, set against the backdrop of today’s global challenges, it’s clear that the spirit of the Games continues to evolve, embodying both the triumphs and trials of our times. The upcoming exhibition in Paris, "Olympic Games: Mirror of Our Societies," is a testament to the enduring power of sport to reflect, and sometimes challenge, the currents of our world. It delves into the original pacifist intentions of the Games while unflinchingly examining their use as platforms for propaganda, and venues for voicing the pressing issues of race discrimination, sexism, and more. As someone deeply ingrained in the fabric of the Olympic movement, I am heartened by the exhibition’s aim to trace the complex narratives of the Games, reminding us that through sport, we engage in a broader dialogue about our values, our struggles, and our aspirations for peace and inclusivity. My Thoughts for Today Will the Paris Olympics be green enough? Paris has set goals to reduce the carbon emissions from the 2024 Olympics by more than half compared to previous Games, from an average of 3.6 million tons to 1.5 million tons. Keep in mind though that the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 were in the midst of the pandemic with almost no participants. The summer Olympics are the biggest sporting event on the planet, and from July 26 to August 11, around 11,200 athletes are expected in Paris, with almost 10 million visitors travelling to 329 locations for various events. No doubt major sporting events have an incomparable power. They trigger unbelievable euphoria as nations celebrate, unite and the world appears to stand still for a short while. The Paris Olympics want to prove their sustainability more than ever before. The ambitions are there, as is the pressure. But what will actually remain in the end and are we looking a little too much through green glasses? I guess only time will tell. #ccpn #sustainability #innovation #economy

Like most people, we watched in awe as the blazing Paris Olympic cauldron rose magnificently into the sky this past weekend. Rooted in the rich history of the Games, the cauldron pays homage to thousands of years of mythology and all who have competed under it since. However, this year’s cauldron has a secret! The Olympic flame burning bright in the night sky does not actually burn at all. The innovative cauldron is a clever optical illusion powered by 40 LEDs and water mist. It is the most sustainable Olympic cauldron ever, and importantly, it does not compromise on the symbolism and impact the cauldron must have. The floating Paris cauldron beautifully blends respect for the past with the excitement of modern innovation. Its elegant form and creativity symbolise the potential of progress through thoughtful evolution. It reflects a world where traditions are not discarded but enhanced through creative solutions. At Fressko, this harmonious blend of old and new struck a chord with us; it has always been core to the way we approach product design. “We don’t want to reinvent the wheel, we just want to make a better wheel.” It’s a quote that gets thrown around HQ often, and the cauldron reminded us why it’s so important to remember; our products embody the balance between maintaining reliable, time-tested concepts and advancing them with modern technology and sustainable practices. A reflection about the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony and Risk Taking: We need to talk about Paris tonight. We all have a lot to learn from that amazing event. Watching the ceremony, the joy of athletes, the logistics in cooperation with the boats and river companies, the wowed audience in every landmark in such iconic city was mesmerizing. I had the opportunity to be in Paris in early May and the ongoing preparation was much more than a master program in terms of complexity of planning and execution. Out of the inherent multiplicity of aspects to be coordinated, the risk taken to have such event within historic venues maybe will give us the most beautiful Olympic Games in the Modern Era. Imagine playing at Place de la Concorde or at Champ de Mars. But the extra mile that came as a gift was that the ceremony in every moment showed the new configuration of France and it speaks volume in terms of deep intentional provocation. Absolutely beyond the first layer of the speech of diversity, event was brave to address clear message of what the current France is about bringing together the old roots and the new embedded in the transformation of this country under so many pressures. As we close follow the moment unfolding in Europe and in the world with so much intolerance and tons of discussion of the possibilities for the mankind that is about to outsource some capabilities to some Gen AI engine it was beautiful to see that this same mankind has a history and legacy. All that is about to come need to be something to make us better as people, as society, as community. The beauty of the arts and the expression of emotions needs to be embraced and protected because this is about the core of our nature. How does this connect with our corporate skin? We need to make business for a better world. We need to reset our mindset to acknowledge that diversity is a reality. Diversity of cultures, diversity of issues, diversity of beliefs. Tonight France gave us something to consider. They showed us how aware they are of the diversity in place there. They told us that they are not easy to get on agreement but they managed to get things done. And moreover they mastered the risk taking. It was unbelievable extension of event that reinforced the influence of the French legacy.
