What a treat! We attended Grant's Interest Rate Observer Fall Conference this week, courtesy of SABLELIGHT Center. I've been reading Grant's for a few years, not as many years some avid fans and readers, but long enough to have foreseen the treasury yield curve inversion months in advance, and have a sense that BOJ might make a move this summer (they did, Aug 10 if any remember). This conference had an incredible speaker line-up with some of the top voices in finance. (*This analyst's) Top Takeaways from the Grant's Fall Conference: - Mr. James Grant: Takes a 40 yr long view on rates. - Michael Green: Passive investing is not passive, and it's ruining everything. - Rob Robotti: The Zombie 1000 has more winners than you could imagine. - Stanley Druckenmiller: FX extraordinaire says reserve currency trades only when there is trust. BRICS not likely to be a reserve currency (any time soon). - Bill Ackman: Harvard Corp= HOLD. But this analyst thinks he means SELL. - Boaz Weinstein: 23 campaigns target CEFs and Munis for better board of directors governance and discount rates. Until next time, I will be quietly reading my twice-monthly newsletter every morning with my coffee, and conferring with my new Fordham University cohort analyst friends** Sezim Zhenishbekova, Louisa Scheiter, KoHsiang Kao, Henry Pelinski. cc: Fordham Gabelli School of Business *This analyst: views are my own **Business School friends are forever
