Check out our new policy short! Working with Laura E. Chavez, PhD was an absolute joy and I think our conclusions can positively impact policies in the states - The Clean Slate Initiative. Research indicates that after a waiting period of 5 to 7 years without criminal activity, most individuals with records pose no more significant threat to public safety than the general population. By aligning legislative waiting periods with research findings, we reinforce the concept of rehabilitation. Shortening waiting periods increases the employability of qualified workers, which improves the economy, strengthens businesses, and transforms the lives of those seeking a meaningful career. https://lnkd.in/gihst94D

What a great idea! Job sharing means two brains, skill sets, energy levels and experiences. What’s not to love? A common question, as in this article, is ‘but what if you disagree?’ In Hally Lara and my experience, we respect each other and are working together towards the same end goal. So a ‘robust discussion’ (I wouldn’t call it a disagreement) only ever leads to us challenging each other’s viewpoints and looking at an issue from additional angles - which ultimately results in a better solution than we would have come up with solo! It’s Day 6 Firstly this will be the last time I’ll be making my posts late because it affects my engagements. Anyways I realized that I never fully explained what public policy is all about and why it matters so much to me. Anyways, we’ll be doing that today. What is Public Policy? Public policy is how governments decide to tackle issues that affect all of us. It includes laws, regulations, and actions aimed at solving problems and improving our lives. Why It Matters ? Public policy impacts everything from the schools kids attend, the safety of our streets, the healthcare we receive, to the environment we live in. Good policies can lead to progress and fairness, while poor policies can create problems. I’ve also noted that to formulate good public policy you need first find what needs fixing. You don’t just formulate a policy just for policy sake; identify the problem, create a plan, get approval, implement the plan and such an important part to always do which a lot fail to is to evaluate. You need to see if this public policy that was formulated is working or if it’s need improvement. I’m passionate about public policy because I believe in making a difference. It’s all about finding ways to make our communities better and fairer. One key drive for me is pushing for young girls and women. The former Southern Exposure editor and Institute for Southern Studies staffer reflects on his work on the Southern Exposure digital archives project over the last two years and his career at the Institute. "As in any retrospective look, reality balances memory. We were, perhaps, naïve about the possibility of the South leading a progressive tilt in electoral politics. These days, I take all election predictions, especially the more hopeful ones by progressives around elections and unionization, with a hundred grains of salt.
