If the obvious marketing channels—paid search, SEO, social media—are not delivering... 💸 Don't put bad money after bad. And don't throw in the towel either. Not every business should be prioritizing those channels out the gate. What you're going to do is: 📚 Learn all about your buyers or potential buyers, where they spend their time, what they do buy, the services they love, and the products they use. 💡 Use what you learn there to list out some tactics you might use to get in front of them, such as co-marketing with other businesses, partnership opportunities, affiliate opportunities, and content collabs. ~But don't stop with channel partners~ Ramp up your direct response marketing too: 📧 Take a good look at what you're doing on email and refine your content approach for each segment. 🔄 Double back on your email frequency and engagement, take a good look at the response you're getting, and make sure you have strong deliverability—your email is making it to the inbox. Consider doing more traditional: 📬 Are mailers, maybe dimensional mailers something that could work for your audience? 📍 Do you know which events and locations are frequented by your potentials? Have you tried going? 📻 Does your audience make a commute? Radio is still a thing. 🏢 Does your business development team have solid leave-behinds when they visit client worksites? A lot of newer marketers seem to think that the only way to do marketing is through Social Media or Search Engines... Does your company need marketing? While scrolling through my LinkedIn feed over the weekend, I saw a post from a founder asking whether she should start doing marketing for the service her company offers. I'm glad you asked! 🙂 ↳ My answer is: It's not "if" but "when" you should do marketing. And no, paid ads are not the only marketing activity. 👉 Seth Goding has put it well: "If you need to persuade someone to take action, you’re doing marketing." (For the full post, check the comments) You start marketing as early as pitching your business idea or by creating the homepage. However, in terms of how many of you think about it (paid ads, Google search ads, SEO, etc.), for most companies, marketing this kind of marketing should come later in the business growth. ↳ Actually, I think that the company pitch and homepage are even more critical than running paid ad campaigns. You need to create a foundation before doing more advanced activities. There are a ton of products and services created all the time that potential users will never hear of. Or they have heard about them, but didn't understand what it's about and scrolled past it. Who to blame - marketing! My advice is to start marketing as early as possible. You need to get information out there. If you don't know how and where to start - get help.
