Module 2 of our online event safety training course continued last night with great presentations. Ebrahim Yusuf from ICC Durban opened the session with a discussion on Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment. He was followed by Maj Gen (Ret) Charl Annandale who spoke about the SAPS Risk Assessment process, and the importance of collaboration between SAPS and event organisers. Did you know that SAPS processes 17 thousand event assessments every year? The session closed with a presentation by Adv Raynard Looch who spoke about the importance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, with a particular emphasis on compliance with chapter 37.2 of the Act. The session was moderated by Phil Prinsloo. A big thank you to all our speakers. One of SACIA's objectives as a professional body is to encourage continuing professional development by industry professionals - we're never too old to stop learning.

The nomination period for the 5-Star Safety and Training awards is now open as part of Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine. Unfortunately, they have not made it easy to navigate to the survey as each entry receives a unique survey monkey link based on the IP address from the homepage banner so I cannot provide you with a direct link to the survey. Link 1 - Best in safety - Annual Calendar | Canadian Occupational Safety (thesafetymag.com) Link 2 - https://lnkd.in/gUVZSFx5 We asking our key customer contacts and students to go to the website to submit an entry. It should have a banner as seen below to click on and nominate a trainer along with training company for recognition. The deadline is June 14th, and the survey can only be completed once per IP address. The banner for the survey is rotating through the homepage with other banner ads so if it is not showing, refresh the page or wait a few minutes and try again until the banner changes and shows the 5-star survey link. It can also appear either at the top or bottom of the homepage as they have two banner placements on that page.
