Before joining the Municipality of Kerman, I was unaware of the immense importance of #human_resources in realizing strategic changes. But, when I entered the city… I was responsible for an 100 years old organization with approximately 6000 employees, serving a city of 800,000 citizens with numerous critical services operating in 24/7 timings and duty list with 372 rows! which directly impact on stakeholders' lifestyles, from #birth_to_death. People want to see a real and #fast! change in their lives, the city council stress on the #big and fast! projects and the organization have #no_emotion and direction to the change. Additionally I (as a director of this organization) am #not_a_native of this city and I have to know the organization and city structures simultaneously!! It became evident that #structural_reforms were necessary in planning, implementing plans, and engaging with city stakeholders. However, #initially, I needed to gather comprehensive and accurate data from the field. Which field?really? Without Management Information Systems (#MIS), data collection relied on #formal_reports from outdated organizational structures, highlighting an #inherent_paradox in the change process. What should I do in this tough situation? I have opted for a strategy I call the "#field_consultants_strategy." What role did these new consultants play in the municipality's change strategy? #First, they conducted qualitative assessments of the organization's key performance indicators in the field. #Second, they broke the closed loops of existing employees to identify suitable candidates for new municipal managers. #Lastly, they reshaped the meaning of consultants in our organization culture from being synonymous with underutilized individuals behind desks to active and impactful contributors in the field. I'd be glad to provide your feedback and probably your experience on this strategy! #urban_management #local_government_expriences #human_resource #municipality #kerman_city #week_2

As a City Manager, I found this article very interesting. If you get an opportunity, send a “thank you” note to your local city manager and give him or her your encouragement and support for continued success in addressing the challenges in your community, I assure you, this will be of great appreciation. I regularly reach out to other City Manager's to do a quick check-in or just to send positive vibes to them, just because. #P3GROWTHPROCESS

We believe that urban planning can make or break people's access to wellbeing, including social connectedness - one of the Five Domains of Wellbeing. This #WellbeingWednesday, we're highlighting an article from American Planning Association outlining opportunities to increase people's sense of belonging and ability to connect to the people who matter to them. They also provide a framework for understanding the three key types of social infrastructure: havens, hubs and hangouts.
Can Strong Social Infrastructure Cure the Loneliness Epidemic?

“From the Community, For the Community” Projects often fail due to inadequate community engagement. Successful road safety projects place community involvement at their core, ensuring solutions are effective, sustainable, and embraced by residents. Here are key insights and examples of how community-based approaches enhance road safety outcomes: 🔍 Understanding Local Needs and Context Community members possess invaluable local knowledge. Engaging with residents tailors road safety initiatives to address specific issues that may not be apparent to outsiders. 🤝 Building Trust and Ownership Active involvement fosters a sense of ownership and trust within communities, leading to higher compliance with safety measures and a commitment to maintaining improvements. 🔄 Promoting Behavioural Change Engagement initiatives effectively promote behavioural change. Community-led campaigns, educational workshops, and local advocacy shift attitudes and behaviours towards road safety. 🔧 How HA Consulting Can Help At HA Consulting Pty Ltd, we are dedicated to realising a future where every journey is safe and sustainable. The Even better public sector for Queensland strategy is built around three key focus areas: 1. Our work 2. Our workforce 3. Our workplace. Focus area one, our work, looks at how our ways of working inspire trust in government. Our sector’s ability to respond quickly and effectively when challenges arise is a key part in how we build and maintain trust with our community and government. With new challenges and opportunities arising more often, coupled with the fast-paced nature of technological advancements and environmental changes we need to look at what we can improve now to be better equipped for the future. So how are we going to do this? In the strategy we’ve identified two goals under this focus area, one, ensure we are better equipped to respond to complex challenges and two, that we are better connected to the community. Our first action plan for 2024 and 2025 breaks down these goals into 5 action items, that we’re already working on to deliver. For more information on what the action items are check out the tiles belove or visit 👉 https://lnkd.in/gU9Jc7Gt Or learn more focus area one and the Even better strategy by visiting 👉 https://lnkd.in/gmbfZ9M5 #EvenBetterPublicSectorQld #BeHere4Qld #OurWork #TrustInGovernment

Links between public policy and health policy are becoming more and more defined! 🤝🏙💕 One of the biggest drivers for our fund is the adoption of Houston's Transit Oriented Development (TOD) ordinance which encourages the reduction of parking requirements, and paves the way for walkable urbanism to truly take root in our city. Our corridor, The Plant Neighborhood, is strategically placed within a TOD zone AND we’re one of the cities designated Complete Communities. All that to say, we owe a big thank you to everyone at the City of Houston Planning Department for their progressive leadership! The attached report from ChangeLab Solutions backs up this kind of thinking and highlights how thoughtful planning policies can greatly contribute to healthy communities everywhere. The Future of Work in Our Cities This week there’s been much commentary on the work from home culture & it’s impact on cities. The big issue we’ve been considering is the role of the planner in activating our central business districts & preparing for the future of work. Planners are good at dealing with complex issues, & as with any good policy development process, we start by trying to understand the problem. Read bit.ly/3TEPUpN #NZplanning #NZPI #PlannersNZ

8moit has been a maze for me how you were selected as the mayor of Kerman by city council while you had never resided there. considering corrupt bureaucracy in political structure, convincing city council is a long and complicated process which includes much wheeling and dealing.
